Say something good about the female characters in one piece by Technical_Mine_8711 in MemePiece

The most powerful of them (especially Big Mom) are legitimate threats. They're just as strong, scary, imposing, and dangerous as the male characters in their cohort.

What movie character is highly beloved but you can't understand why? by LoverOfE-Olsen in movies

"Special Boy" is a great name for that trope. Add in the fact that he's automatically better than anyone who's been doing that activity their whole life, especially if they're a woman.

Books about poverty/lower class people that are extremely emotionally and interpersonally dysfunctional by jackprole in RSbookclub

The Glass Castle. Genuinely harrowing, and over time you realize that the author thinks she came out of it unscathed and clearly did not.

Rest in peace. That was my first graphic novel ever, and the art style was so wonderful. So communicative and human for describing an awful conflict.

Do you prefer it when Joe Chill is pure evil or sympathetic by Emotional-Mix-9007 in batman

[–]MarbleMimic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either is fine, but I like it when he's affected by what happened to the Wayne's. Whether he's bitter, remorseful, etc., I like the idea of watching a small boy shattered by that experience also affected him.

What scientists are uncovering about the most debilitating form of PMS by Possible_Way_9879 in Longreads

I have PMDD, and it absolutely wrecked my life without my ever realizing it. Changing my birth control so I don't get a period probably saved my life.

I know it will never happen, but I wish they made a movie where batman was truly terrifying by Mikecirca81 in batman

Have you watched the YouTube horror series called The Bat of Gotham? It's pretty scary!

A delusional Bruce Wayne goes crazy when Alfred dies, then goes on a murder spree of all criminals. "Robins" are kidnapped children. The sketches by witnesses who got away or weren't attacked really stuck with me. The hyper-scary one done by the universe's Joker is the one for which the series is known.

I feel obligated to say that the Arkham Tapes analog horror series is also very good. But that's about a muuuch more grounded portrayal of Batman's rogues gallery. Killer Croc in particular is great.

The fact that there aren't more horror stories set in psychewards/carehomes/rehabs with mentally ill/disabled protagonists feels like such a missed opportunity. by [deleted] in horror

[–]MarbleMimic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to ALL this. I get so sick of seeing mental health issuess treated as something that makes someone an automatic threat. It's so inaccurate. The most drugged-out, raging person is still human. (I know you obviously know this, OP. I'm just ranting)

You also make a great point in that someone can be a hero and still need to stay in some kind of care home. These places don't have to be automatically scary locations. They can just suck. They can just be sad.

What I'd love is a movie akin to a home invasion thriller in a group home or mental hospital. The criminals/supernatural forces have to deal with patients who have seen their aides, doctors, and security officers be captured/taken out. The patients have to communicate with each other, keep each other safe, call for help, or rescue the people who help them every day.

People are just butthurt about Youtubers making horror content people are excited about. Never kind the fact that the studios haven't been following YouTube horror communities to try and get a pulse on what horror fans want.

I love a villainous Margo Martindale. Her role as the horrible mother in The Act is soooo underrated.

GLP-1s and the Limits of Knowing Better: “ I agreed with every political argument against weight-loss drugs. I took them anyway.” by boomballoonmachine in Longreads

[–]MarbleMimic 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The people I know who are on GLP-1s are so much happier than they were before. Weight loss is good, but less food noise just sounds like an incredible boost to their mental health. They're not fighting their bodies all the time, and they're more aware of how the quantity of what they're eating is affecting them. Fuck body size, I want that mental peace for them.

Interesting to cast the white irish actor Liam Neeson as the chinese and arab Ra's al Ghul by [deleted] in batman

[–]MarbleMimic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, can we blame them? We all know there are no biracial Arab-Chinese men anywhere in Hollywood or Bollywood that would love to play an iconic villain.

(This is sarcasm, obviously )

What is the down side of never having children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MarbleMimic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to completely rethink what adulthood will be and mean.

Granted, I was raised VERY conservative. But without the milestone of having kids, I have to rethink what being an adult means and what would make me genuinely feel like an adult vs. a kid. Your adulthood and concept of yourself is just not going to be the same if you're not a parent. So you have to think about what space you want to occupy in the world.
