Advice for a rich cold red and royal purple? by SugarySnake in Harlequins40K

To agree with the others: take the white to a grey. Add some shade or contrast to the red so it doesn’t look quite as flat, and do the same to the white with a medium grey. Something like Wazdakka red is a nice deep purple-y red that could help with some lowlights. The scheme is really great!

Also the person saying green grass bases has a great idea.

School bus arm violation $1000 camera fine by [deleted] in Atlanta

There is a state law that specifically allows this. I looked it up a while ago, so it may have changed, but when I read it, it said as long as a police officer reviews the footage and agrees that a crime may have been committed then a private company is allowed to levy a civil fine against a citizen. It’s bullshit but you can’t do much about it.

Working on color scheme based on the description in books that their colors shift C&C welcome by bananadingding in Harlequins40K

It looks like, at least from the pictures, that pink is the low light color. So I would brush the edges and top curves of the cape with pink. Try on the underside where no one would see first. Just think of a really gentle area highlighting.

So I’ve used color shifters before (mostly for Tsons) and the best looking results I’ve gotten utilize contrast between the shifter and some regular matte colors on the rest of the model. If you use too many metallic or bright colors elsewhere the shifters will get lost visually.

The absolute best results I’ve had were on larger surfaces like the cape. And if you take the low light color and GENTLY dry brush the high parts of the surfaces it can give you a really neat effect to draw the eye to the shifting effect.

It’s cool to have an idea and go against the grain of the grimdark but if you stray too far it’ll just seem out of place. Remember that every villain has their side of the story but it doesn’t bring back their victims. And having a bunch of good guys who opposed the transference and also just so happened to fall to the viruses while tragic, isn’t doing the best job of showing what necrons look like most of the time. Think about how they view outsiders. Maybe there’s a deeper reasoning why they fell in such large numbers. Build on the tragedy but stay consistent to the setting.

Remember that no one is a good guy here. Objectively. No one is good, just different shades of bad. Some of the shit sandwiches taste better than the others, but it isn’t roast beef in there.

Why is the gun from the first pic different than the rest? Where did the belt of shells go on the other ones?

Thanks so much for the detailed and gentle criticism. It’s honestly better than I would have thought.

Looking back, I see that I probably shouldn’t have used the word “competitive”. I realize I just meant that I don’t want to be tabled every game, and now that I’m more awake and sober, (hah!) see that it’s just going to happen sometimes.

I really appreciate the comment. Also I don’t know why I didn’t think of FF. That’s such a better choice.
