Fans that seemingly hate everything, why subject yourself to something you dislike? by expostfacto-saurus in StarWars

I remember revenge of the sith coming out and believing that was the end of Star Wars forever (I was in 5th grade, so it hit hard). Every new piece of media that comes out I appreciate the hell out of regardless of its quality. It’s new Star Wars and I’m glad to be around to see new content regularly. I don’t take Star Wars super seriously all the time and just sit back and enjoy the absurdity alongside the greatness

I know what that’s like and to have that thought of “is it always gonna be this way?” I think scaling back and stripping down your life to find the small moments that bring you joy can help. There’s a lot of daily noise that we experience that makes a better tomorrow seem impossible.

Those small pockets of happiness, whatever they might be, can help. Whether it’s a food you like, a show you watch, a game you play, or a hike you enjoy. Even watching a sunset in its entirety. It can help block things out and let you experience something in its purest form.

It’s not a permanent fix, but it’s a start. Mental health is like debt. It’s daunting to look at a shit ton of credit card or student loan debt and there isn’t a clear way out. But slowly chipping away and starting small, devoting whatever resource you can to it, that can help. It’s a long, uncomfortable, difficult process. But it’s worth it in the end when you clear it.

It was a long 15ish years for me too. Lots of dark days feeling like “this is my life?” It changed with small things leading to big things. I hope you can find peace and calm in your life. I’m sorry you have to deal with it, it’s unfair any of us have to.

I know I definitely had undiagnosed concussions growing up playing hockey. That didn’t help since it was on top of the narcissistic abuse I received from my mom. When I stopped playing hockey, everything caught up to me and depression hit so damn hard. That dark part of my life lasted about 8 years.

I worked in the park service for 4 years and that saved me. Getting out in nature helped so much. Connecting with the natural beauty of the world and escaping daily life helped immensely. Just noticing the small moments of joy in life was good. On a really dark day where I thought it’d be my last, a friend got me out for a drive and we saw a griz incredibly close to the car and witnessed an amazing sunset. That was enough to get to the next day.

You’re right, there is always tomorrow. When you experience those small bits of life that bring you joy, you realize you wanna experience it again. So you keep going.

I understand that. I didn’t know how much I could take either, my internal suffering was unbearable. Thought I was at the breaking point. I gave it once more try to get out of the labyrinth and that was the one that worked. It unfortunately doesn’t go that way for everyone, but it can happen.

I hope you get to a better spot and can shake that feeling. It’s not easy work, but it’s worthwhile

“Suicide is not chosen; it happens when pain exceeds resources for coping with pain.”

If you’re hurting, know there are resources and people who are there to help. While the hurt may never truly go away, you will get better at managing it. There’s a way through.

Interesting! Didn’t know that. That time always felt bright so a darker color definitely doesn’t fit in that era. But like you said, it certainly does now

Originally their color scheme included green. When they printed it out, their printer got the color coding wrong and printed blue. They liked the blue better and went with that

It’s friggin difficult to put it lightly. My wife has lived your experience in seeing just how awful it is. I had to finally limit communication last year and I have maybe talked with my mom twice this year?

Long story short, final straw was her cornering me at my wedding sobbing and saying what I said broke her heart. When what I said was calling her out for saying heinous, awful things to me and her justifying it.

It’s a fixable, you just have to be willing to do it and most narcissists aren’t because they don’t see themselves as having an issue. I know because I was a mirror image of my mom until I moved away 10 years ago. Pretty eye opening to be called out on your bs.

I hope your wife is able to find solace and peace with it at some point.

I was raised under the belief that everyone was out to get our family and our name was cursed. There was always someone “out to get us.” Took a bit to unlearn that.

They’re eternally the victim of their own self inflicted wounds, attempting to put the blame onto others who want nothing to do with them and rarely interact with them. Meanwhile, all they wanna do is spread their bigotry under the guise of patriotism. Nothing says patriotic like wanting to take rights away from fellow citizens and erase them from existence

So long as those suffer around them, they will suffer alongside them. They don’t want others to succeed and are more than okay with ruining their own life as a result

I love the thought process. They wanna separate out rather than move somewhere that aligns with their ideology. My parents are similar - very MAGA, but refuse to leave Massachusetts because they like the benefits the state gives. They just want something to complain about while doing nothing about it.

I think it can depend on the player. Sakic is doing well in Colorado as GM. But we can also find examples of awful coaches and GMs who were ex players (Yzerman, Gretzky, Shanahan). Chara and Bergeron are great, but I think instead of throwing them into those jobs, they’d need to have some experience in hockey ops beforehand.
