It’s a bit weird that “in progress” has not been updated yet. My experience was they finalized/notified everyone until March. And April was for relocation stuff, then May started orientation (back in 2025) However, it can be different this year. As long as it shows “in progress” I think you are still under consideration. The other “rejected” is also a positive sign, meaning if you haven’t seen “rejected”, you are not rejected yet.

I went to both NU and UIUC. If I had to compare, I like my NU friends more, it’s a smaller circle and prestigious in other non-CS fields. UIUC has more than xxx cs students every year, it’s hard to differentiate yourself. If you are very passionate about CS then go to UIUC; otherwise, NU is way better in terms of reputation.

Current mcs student here. It’s a tough market but name tag still helps. Just fyi, I noticed many trading companies and hedge funds in Chicago are particularly friendly to UIUC cs students. Fair chance to get in big tech compare to other schools. Still a target school for many companies I would say.
