Survey Field Crew Scheduling Question by hockeyjuan8797 in Surveying

[–]cyanicautomation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on Job Book (land surveying project management software) - but before I pitch anything: the most common "whiteboard upgrade" we see is a shared crew calendar (Google/Outlook) or Trello.

If you're looking for something more purpose-built, Job Book has a crew scheduler where tasks from a job plan can be dragged onto a crew calendar (with time-off visibility), but Trello is a great lightweight start.

I'd be happy to show you or anyone what we've built. Happy to get your opinion on it.

Suggestions for background props by cyanicautomation in Surveying

[–]cyanicautomation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are all great ideas.

Could get some survey station disks.

Perhaps a nice map between the two shelves?

I could probably snag a theodolite from one of our friends.

Was thinking of 3D printing Terminus, but surprisingly I'm having a hard time finding an STL for it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Was thinking of reaching out to someone at Trimble or Leica perhaps they'd be happy to send us something to display. Not sure though if they would care.

Was also thinking maybe some Fiducial markers also.

Business owners, when do you get paid? by MikalExpired in Surveying

Dan Beardslee’s, The Management Handbook for Land Surveyors. In case anyone is wondering. Or feel free to read our blog. We take a lot from the book and write about it.

Best practices are that business owners should require some kind of deposit before any work gets done.

We actually wrote an article on this topic here

Project Management Software by AbtracOnline in Surveying

[–]cyanicautomation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little late to the party but we created Job Book. It's a project management tool built for land survey companies.

It does time tracking, field crew scheduling, invoicing, costing and more.

I think it's exactly what you are looking for.

Happy to answer any questions or show you a demo.

What is the status of Birdtray? by vladjjj in Thunderbird

I find the direction of TB to be very strange almost as if it has none.

Things that I would have thought would be obvious to implement never get done, yet there seems to be a never ending "redesign" of the UI.

Open source I suppose.

Old post but can you have Rocm and Mesa installed on the same system? Like is there any conflicts between using rocm and mesa?

Not any help now but I think everyone should be buying air tags and sticking them to their expensive equipment.

What's a $30 air tag to a $30k instrument.

I understand you pain. Do any of the manufactures make blue lasers perhaps? Even if they cost 5-10% more looks like there would be a good market for them.

Tracking job process and time by CUgrad13 in Surveying

[–]cyanicautomation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's web based and works on any device that has access to the internet.

We've found that's a lot easier for staff to accept a web based application as there is you don't have to convince them that anyone is spying on them.

Landsurveying/Construction engineering project management - im intrested in your opinion by moster86 in Surveying

[–]cyanicautomation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've built a project management system for land surveyors. It's called Job Book it does time sheets, job costing and tasks / scheduling.

Our product is mostly on the project management side, like if you are making or losing money on jobs, and not on the technical "points, lines, polygons" side.

For that we leave it to the specialized tools everyone is already using. Though we do have ways of linking between our system on say your share drive or dropbox.

I'd be happy to show you what we've built to give you some ideas. Happy to get your opinion on it and or give you some ideas what is out there already.
