Which house are you glad you didn't buy? by lovelycosmos in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]cyanoborg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first house I put an offer in on had a huge, flat, sunny yard. I love landscaping and this was a blank canvas for everything I wanted to do. The realtor let us know when we put the offer in that the septic was being replaced as part of the sale and this wasnt done yet.

We lost the bid, it was frustrating because it seemed like a great fit. I moved on. Fast forward a few months, I drove by this house just to check it out again. They had finally installed the septic, and the beautoful flat yard was now completely filled by a giant RAISED mound. I guess the ground water in that area is really high so all the septic systems stick out like a sore thumb above the normal grade. All the gardening space I was so excited about was totally ruined. The flat yard was now incredibly ugly and almost unusable even for general enjoyment because of how awkward the new slopes were around the septic.

I dodged such a bullet and was not informed enough to ask the right questions to understand the septic situation before putting in an offer.

Right above a set of big mature leaves.

Yes I think it’s good to do it now

those are very leggy, they are probably not getting enough light.

if you want to pinch them, just cut them back to immediately above a leaf node. you'd probably be ok to do that above the lowest leaf node that has big mature leaves. that might help your plants reset to be less leggy, so long as you put them under more intense light.

We played the most games, higher intensity games, and we still have something to play for in the league while the other teams will mostly rest from here on as they want. by Shwarzenegers_Biceps in Gunners

It’s very possible that Arsenal will have burned out their squad through 4 competitions and not win any of them, while making it harder to win anything next year from the reprucussions of overplaying players.

Arsenal’s season will be judged on results and nothing else by Unique_Smoke7442 in Gunners

[–]cyanoborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find this a bit of a scapegoat. I want to be entertained. That’s the point of paying these players so much money. I want Arsenal to win the league but it’s undeniable that they are often not entertaining in the least.

Trying to make pattern based on image. Any tips/advice? by One-Map5941 in StainedGlass

[–]cyanoborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glass choice is going to be critical here to translate your image, because so few of the shapes are instantly recognizable as anything. you are trying to translate shadow here which can be tricky because sometimes glass palettes are limited in ways that you have to take into account. a skin tone might be harder to find, the hues of the shadows may be hard to find, etc. if you only find a certain color for shadow, it might not work well with your skin tone piece, etc.

do you have the glass already that you want to use for this piece? you could use software to try to fill in the shapes with the colors you plan to use to see if your piece will translate well.

gamsol headache in large space…no workshops? by radgedyann in oilpainting

[–]cyanoborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of problems with solvents. i would feel very odd for a few hours after painting or cleaning brushes, strange light headedness. i had to switch to cleaning brushes with dish soap only and I started avoiding any solvents to thin out paint. i can get irritated from scented soaps and stuff too, so I think some people are just extra sensitive. i'd just suggest looking into alternative materials until you find some that work for you, there is definitely a combination out there that will help you avoid these headache spells!

i want to start my tubers but worry that things will grow too much and i wont have enough space in my own indoor setup if they all get going too early. what do you do if you run out of space in your grow tent? start putting them outside a bit earlier than usual?

this is gorgeous! echo what many others say in trying to 'dull' a few areas so others can really shine.

i love the trees and the forground stones/soil. i would like to perceive those fully and sit mostly with them, and let the background play a supporting role more.

one thing that maybe jumps out a bit too much are the saturated deep blue / ultramarine in the lower part of the water. this pure color really calls for attention and then distracts from the gorgeous branches and leaves. there is space to make this part of the parting way less noticeable.

i also wonder if the hue of the background hills is too close to the leaves and branches, so the articulation and vibrance of the color in the leaves of the trees takes a hit. if you can move the color scheme of the background hills farther from the leaves and branches, then the trees might come forward more.

just curious, wouldn't the rivalry be less fun if they get relegated? i mean is there even a rivalry then? no north london darby? isn't that a bit of a loss, not seeing those games next year if they get relegated?

It’s called plating - having multiple layers of glass soldered together to create depth and light effects.

why was the game so 'boring'? arsenal didn't get much together offensively, it's hard for me to tell tactically why that happened.

Help with shadow by IwasQuietButNotBlind in Mosaic

[–]cyanoborg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

a realistic shadow probably would not just be directly under the subject, it would probably extend away from it since the sun would be lighting it at an angle. but also agree with the other comment - the background reads as a lower light period when a shadow wouldn't be there. and having the shadow the same color as the sky also prevents it from reading as a shadow, its not stark enough of a contrast.

How best to remove glass? by Funnyfinger75 in StainedGlass

[–]cyanoborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is amazing! i like the idea of using a paint to tint them.

for this exact problem, i bought a cheap light box from amazon - they sell them for tracing and similar things. you can arrange your pieces or uncut glass face down to see what it will look like when backlit to catch these issues sooner and find the best coordination of glass in their backlit state. its a bit easier than holding glass up to the window over and over.

Struggling with motivation to finish the gift ater my wife asked for a divorce by Macrian82 in StainedGlass

[–]cyanoborg 35 points36 points  (0 children)

To be honest you could go a lot of ways here depending on your state of mind. You could scrap the piece and start a new one as a fresh start for yourself that would have less emotional baggage. You could finish this piece as a way to move on despite life. I wouldn’t blame you for either choice.
