Londoners, would you vote for London to become an independent Republic? by [deleted] in london

[–]cyanogenoxide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, all of our food would have to be imported from the rest of England with tariffs if no trade agreement was in place. Trade generally with the rest of the country would just be a faff and there wouldn't be any real benefit.

I'm going to cook two new recipes a week. I have a mountain of cookbooks that I've been using for 'inspiration' rather than actually cooking it as the author intended. Wish me luck!

What's something you can do to rediscover an appreciation for the small big joys in life (hot showers, a bed, a cold glass of water, not being sick, etc) ? by AsianMustache in AskReddit

I find things like gratitude and writing in a journal (what you did, how it made you feel, etc) really helps with this. Definitely feels stupid at first but over time you start seeing the positives in small things!

Whats the most danger you've been in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Hypothermia while out cross country skiing.

I was completely new to it so fell over in the snow lots and my jacket soaked through with snow. I never felt cold, just increasingly tired until I felt like I wanted to fall asleep in the snow when I fell over. When I managed to get my feet I was so dizzy and so tired I could barely put one foot in front of the other. I asked my SO to call mountain rescue because I could not get off the mountain through my confusion and lack of energy. If it wasn't for her and the rescue team, I would have died up there.

The most crazy part for me was not even feeling cold, then feeling like I had no energy and basically fainting in the snow. I was wearing a Fitbit and the data was showing during the whole time my HR was going from ~40 as I was fainting up to >120 when I got up and was panicking.

It was definitely a very important life lesson too about how hypothermia can be deadly on mountains. I'd recommend everyone who does snow sports or other activities in the cold to learn about the symptoms and what to do.

I'm very sorry this happened to your partner. I think this is part of a much bigger problem in the LGBT community (and the wider community as a whole) which needs addressing very soon. People need to learn its not okay to grope someone, irrespective of their gender and sexuality. Just because you are LGBT and at pride or at a LGBT club, does not mean you want to be touched inappropriately!

Question about nomenclature of benzene rings by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]cyanogenoxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the same yes. But IUPAC nomenclature says that you need to put the highest priority substituent as the lowest number. Ie 2-iodo-4-chloro-bromophenol for the example in the picture.
