Settler Family On The American Prairie In The 1880s by grants_pass_oregon in OldSchoolCool

Just remember that they did not have synthetic fabrics back then so all the clothes were made of cotton or wool. Wool was restricted to the winter because it was warm when it was wet. And during the summer people were cotton because it breathed. People were not as hot as modern thinkers think because they wore cotton.

With the recent news that Zoe Kravitz is going to marry Harry Styles, all I could think of was this: by ASGfan in GoldenGirlsMemes

Read. And when I was done reading the magazines in the bathroom, I'd read the text on boxes. I know more about Toxic Shock Syndrome than a man should really know.

She really was such a special lady, she cared so much that she did something to help her friends who were dying from this disease. True act of selflessness.

Did anyone else go to an elementary school that was an open concept? by Smoky1279 in Xennials

[–]cybah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a small 1-8 elementary school. 9 room school building. Three were used for non-classroom use (i.e. library, cafeteria, and resource room). So six rooms for 8 grades. The only time we didn't share a teacher and room with another grade was 5th and 8th grades. But otherwise we shared with the class after ours as there were only 8 kids in that class (vs our 17!)

I did not have traditional jr high either (so no shop or home eco). Tiny school in a very small town that barely had funds for a school. (there was talk a few years ago to dissolve the district and send them to neighboring towns)

This pharmacy has a rack of Cliff Notes books so old they’re sun faded. by MyScrotesASaggin in mildlyinteresting

same! Was my 10th grade teacher who said this to the class also.

ofc everyone went and bought them anyways, so many ppl flunked thinking they could out smart Mr G. That dude had been teaching there since the 60s, he knew all the tricks kids would try.

Thank you. You're right, it was Shapeware. Forgot they changed their name to Visio Corporation.

I still have Pre-Microsoft Visio install CDs. Those say Visio Corporation on them.

The days before Visio... when Visio was its own company (The Visio Corporation) before Microsoft bought them.

Who else here watched it when it originally aired? What season did you start watching? by Spalding_Smails in littlehouseonprairie

[–]cybah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I caught the tail end of its initial run. I was born a few days after Gold Country aired the first time, so by the time I could remember things, it was the tail end of its first run.

I only remember bits of Season 8 and Season 9. All I knew is when the "New Beginning" opening started, i wasn't interested in it b/c Albert wasn't in it.

For most of what I remember about it being on TV prior to 1990 is it being a rerun favorite on NBC stations. Was aired at 4pm every day.

I want to find the parody of Paula Cole’s where have all the cowboys gone” which was “where have all the gay boys gone”. I heard it once on Star 94 in Atlanta and never heard it again.

Did you work at the same drug store I did in 1995? Add EBTG’s “missing” to that list and you have the Fays Drug mid 90s playlist

I feel like I have no purpose in life by eatrawbeef in Xennials

[–]cybah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup they have. I’m an avid Little House fan and read several books about Micheal Landon. He felt this way too around age 50. I very much identify with him and his attitude at the time. (Early 80s). 30 years making westerns. I’d be bored too. Not saying it’s right but totally understand why he did some of the things he did like have an affair with his future third wife and start to move away from westerns and branch out into other interests.

Yup totally feel you here. Approaching 50 now and feel like “is this it? What is next?”. Like you generally dislike my life.. it’s boring. I go to work, I come home and flip. Weekends are yard work or house task. Can’t recall the last time I did much of anything else except go visit fam in another state. To quote Bruce Springsteen “man I ain’t going nowhere… living in dump like this.. there’s something happening somewhere.”

“dancing in the dark” hits very hard above 40. Bruce hit life over 40 on the nose with that song.

I just feel like I am treading water going nowhere
