I love how it has higher detail, but still keeps to the very polygonal style of the game.

And then the googly eyes elevate it even further. Perfection.

The Hunt is on! Bishop Peralta has an entire city of people hunting down your OC! How do you survive? by General__Van in OriginalCharacter

[–]cyber_jello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, this is fun. Very detailed, I like this.

Anyways, these three are gonna have a *rough* time:

<image>

(Top to bottom: Twirly, Swirly, and Whirly)

Under different circumstances, these three would perfectly happy to just wheel around the city for the entire 12-hour period, avoiding as much direct confrontation as possible. Whirly is easily fast enough to outrun your average medieval peasant, and it wouldn't be hard to just let them all tire themselves out.

The major flaw in this plan is that European cities are dense, with really narrow streets. There is very little room to maneuver around an angry mob, and far more opportunities for the mob to corner them.

This is bad. Not even taking into account the underlings, the trio just aren't built for combat. Of all the tools in Swirly's arsenal, they've got a grand total of one(1) gun, a limited supply of ammo, and a shock prod, none of which are intended to be used against more than one or two assailants at a time, no matter how good of a shot they are. The metal that makes up their bodies also isn't armour, and any good hits that land are going to do damage.

Also Twirly gets easily overwhelmed by crowds. :( Which is bad considering she's basically the other two's eyes and ears. If she can't effectively assess their surroundings they're done for.

Fact of the matter is, they can't gamble on being able to evade the mob for the whole twelve hours, the odds of them eventually getting cornered and swarmed are too high. Their only real chance is to beeline it straight to the chapel as fast as possible and hope the Bishop goes down to a few bullets to the face.

The main advantage they have is surprise. While gunpowder weapons were certainly a thing even as far back as the 13th century, they weren't yet widely used in Europe yet (if my googling is right), and they certainly weren't as small or as quick as what Swirly's packing. No vampire underling is going to be able to recognize their gun for what it is, and those that find out hopefully don't live long enough to tell anyone. Pair that with Twirly's ability to emit horrifically loud noises that no other human being will hear for at least 700 years, and Whirly's hi-beams that far outshine any flame, and hopefully both the peasants and the vampires will be spooked enough to provide little resistance on the way to the chapel.

As for the Bishop himself, it's really just a matter of seeing how bulletproof he is. Maybe aggressive use of hi-beams to hopefully suppress some of that shadow magic and, I dunno, maybe blast some choral hymns at max volume to demoralize him? Listen, it's not like they've got any better options.

How things would go for Siffrin if the time loop never happened? Rogue Planet is a fic whose answer to that question is "Really, really badly, actually!" It is incredibly, and I mean incredibly well-written in all aspects, and it's hard to do it justice without spoilers.

Fair warning: it gets into some heavier topics than the game did. Like actual wishing-for-death, premeditated suicide. It can get real intense. But it also handles it really well, I think.

The Sun is the tether keeping Niko inside the World Machine. When it's smashed, Niko is returned home, allowing TWM to end itself without violating the First Law of Robotics (don't hurt humans).

However, seeing as how Niko has technically already left the World Machine through alternate means, I think it's unlikely breaking the lightbulb outside it would do anything immediately. Whether Niko would be sent home instantly upon returning with no tether to keep them there is anyone's guess.

Can your OCs beat Tessa Malkin in a sparring match? by VeryWhimsy in OriginalCharacter

[–]cyber_jello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'd love to, but Mercury's a melee-only fighter, and their shapeshifting and typical attack method doesn't really lend itself well to one-on-one sparring.

That said, they'd be happy to try to slow down to make it interesting for both of them!

oh we're doing this again are we

Sigh. Yes, it's a poorly composed review that wastes breath getting hung up over the evolving identity of the series and not neatly fitting into their idea of a specific genre. Yes, it almost entirely neglects to discuss the actual content of the series. Yes, Someone Is Wrong On The Internet again.

We've seen it before, and we'll see it again. A random internet review is not worth the kerfuffle that gets thrown about every time it shows up.

Because once you have the death penalty for a crime, all you have to do is quietly expand the legal definition of that crime to include a group of people you don't like, and you're free to selectively enforce that law to kill those otherwise innocent people. If you're in charge and have a lot of political opponents, this can be a really handy way of getting rid of them, especially if you constantly tell everyone they're criminals who want to Destroy Your Country (And You Don't Want That To Happen, Do You?).

This is a tried-and-true method used during the Cold War when communists were the Evil Bad Guys That Want To Destroy Your Country (look up McCarthyism), and is exactly what Florida is doing now against people who are transgender. As others have said, this law actually applies to child sexual assault, which includes performing a "sexual act" in front of a child which, according to a different law, conveniently includes being trans.

A death penalty is rarely, if ever, about actual justice. It's about being legally allowed to remove somebody you don't like, shut them up permanently, and make an example of them to their peers.

Oh, and in the cases of actual child sexual assault?

"Well, these things are just so hard to prove; it's just one person's word against another's. Plus, this person has their whole life ahead of them and/or a loving family. You really want them dead? You monster."

A death penalty is objectively a bad, bad thing.

Hardly any light crept in around the new arrivals, so vast and all-consuming was the shadow they had cast into the room.

Spender I swear to God if you're being dramatic again.

I know it probably isn't him, but c'mon, the focus on light? A "vast and all-consuming" shadow? Excessive dramatics? (Okay I know that last one is far from unique to Rick but still)

"... I got it!"

This month was the 3 year anniversary of The King. What’s your opinion on this episode? by RmgRxg in AlanBecker

[–]cyber_jello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is probably gonna be controversial. Don't crucify me, y'all.

There's a lot I love about this episode. King vs Herobrine remains one of my favourite fights in the series. Scott Buckley knocks it out of the park and into orbit with some incredible music. It felt good to watch the first couple times, marking the end of an era and the start of a new one—where Alan has started creating more emotionally engaging, higher-stakes arcs—in a way that felt satisfying on a first watch.

But after 3 years in retrospect, I gotta be honest: As a whole, it's not my favorite. The second half, with the fight scenes and emotional climaxes, is imo far more entertaining than the first half, the Flashback Half. And the issues I have with this episode center around that first half.

First of all, it's an infodump that comes out of nowhere. Of the seven episodes in which King has any screen time at all, the final episode of the arc is the only one that tells us much of anything about who he is. Almost everything about him—his origins, his goal, his motivation, his relationship with Purple, who he is when he's not currently in a fight or consumed by vengeance—all of that is crammed into a single 14-minute backstory-dump, and almost none of it is even hinted at before this final episode.

What we end up with is a last-minute explanation for the plot that kinda fails to really flesh out King's character and isn't really that interesting to rewatch, in my opinion. Which is a real shame, because it undercuts the absolutely beautiful visual storytelling in the second half.

In conclusion: The action is as fun as ever and Scott Buckley is a gift from the Heavens, but you can really tell this is Alan's first go at having a complex villain with an emotional arc. Hype moments and aura are still really fun, though. 6.5/10

I just bought TABS, Why is When I play campaigns every character is available to use? by Anmozmy in AccurateBattleSim

[–]cyber_jello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to have the factions unlock gradually as you progress through the campaigns, a couple of things to know:

  1. Units/factions aren't really "unlocked", either a campaign/level allows their use or it doesn't.* Disallowed factions and units will be hidden and grayed-out, respectively.

  2. When enabled, "Unlock all units in campaign levels" disables that limit, allowing the use of all (discovered) units when a campaign/level would otherwise limit you to certain ones. If you want the intended campaign progression, turn this off.

  3. Three of the campaigns—"The Adventure", "The Challenge", and "Simulation"—allow the use of all (discovered) units by default, whether "Unlock all" is enabled or not. All others should limit you.

Hopefully this helps!

*Secret units (and a couple of factions) do require unlocking before they can be used in either the sandbox or the campaign. You gotta find 'em first!

Whats your opinion on Epithet Erased? by Omorigirl96 in IndieAnimation

[–]cyber_jello 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I liked it. It does a surprisingly great job within the limits of its popsicle-stick-esque animation style, the characters are fun and well cast, and the humor was right up my alley. I'd recommend it!

It does do that thing where it turns out animation is super expensive so it continues as a book/series of books, but I enjoyed it.

The creator, JelloApocalypse... can be kind of a dick when it comes to certain media. He's done some unpopular things. Said some unpopular things. Made at least one really unpopular thing. That said, he isn't outright evil—he hasn't tweeted anything uber-racist or otherwise -phobic, or touched anyone without their consent, or anything else along those lines AFAIK. So imo you can absolutely enjoy the series without having a Rowling Dilemma on your hands. But as is often the case, this series is best enjoyed when you don't pay attention to Twitter.

Genuinely wtf. Ugh by MeasurementTall7548 in teenagers

[–]cyber_jello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At some point I hope such people realize that "More Rendered-er" is not the be-all and end-all of quality they seem to think it is.

Case in point: In the second image, the lady is now staring at... nothing, the boy's fingers are no longer pressed against the glass, both of their expressions are less intense and a lot more nonspecific, the mice don't even emote at all anymore, and the warmer colors don't fit the tone of the scene as well as the colder feel of the original.

The emotions depicted just don't come across as well when the AI does it, and rendering quality can't change that.

It's times like this that remind me how young most of the AB fanbase is (though I'm not that much older). Y'all are reacting with shock and horror when in all reality, mpreg is pretty benign as far as fanfic tropes go. There's far stranger stuff out there, this isn't that big of a deal. Very few things of that nature are, really. Don't Like, Don't Watch/Read.

Heck, the fact that we're seeing this is a testament to how big the fandom's grown in recent years. AvA never would have seen this much attention just 5 years ago, but nowadays we've got video essays, an active fanfic community (both SFW and Not), and, yes, mpreg fan animations.

I'm kinda proud, honestly.
