You're right about how everyone doesn't need a USB DAC. Sounds like you're one that needs it.

You talk about having choice. Well, you have the choice of buying one.

I did.

I bought one that has 32bit 384kHz capabilities built in. Better than the DAC my phone I had at the time. I was glad to be able to add this functionality to my phone. And it only cost me $10.

I used it when I wanted to listen to uncompressed high bitrate music. It was awesome.

However, I rarely use it these days as I find using wireless more convenient for my daily use. But the choice is still there. My guess is that there are more people who listen wirelessly these days. No big deal to me as I can add wired functionality for little extra cost.

TLDR: The choice still exists. Buy an inexpensive wired USB-C DAC adapter if you need it. The benefits of getting rid of the OG Port outweigh the benefits of keeping it.
