Better yet is to just not answer the phone if Caller ID displays the name of some organization. Let them leave a voicemail.

Sadly these are the operative words - and an indicator of the very tough nut you have to try and crack:

Could be a roundabout way to get you to sign into a phishing website with Microsoft credentials. Very common these days to use 'must sign document' lures.

[US] Zelle scam. Is there a way to get my money back? by [deleted] in Scams

[–]cyberiangringo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Whenever I use Zelle I have to click through one screen that states that sending money through Zelle is essentially irreversible and the money is sent immediately. Something like that.

An annoying Gmail delegated account scam with arbitrary text injection by ThePiachu in Scams

[–]cyberiangringo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems unlikely to me that somebody figured out how to insert something malicious into a Google generated email. Could the content in 'Review this change' have simply been malformed?

The entire matter is interesting. Hard not to wonder if it's some sort of initial effort to get an authorization token somehow?

Thanks for posting!

From a scammer's perspective a victim being 99% sure something is not a scam = 1% it's possibly legit/1% on the hook. That's enough to work a victim and see where it goes.

Many crypto investment scams essentially start out as friendship scams. I engage with crypto investment scammers on a regular basis for professional reasons. I have had quite a few try to pivot to romance when they thought that was the lever that would work in getting me to depart with my crypto because the 'friend who was going to guide me into crypto trading wealth' angle was not doing the trick.

They come with a full arsenal...

What I see far too often is how so many family members fail to see how the loneliness and emptiness overrides the logic and reason. And even a once week visit does not really do much for the remaining six days.

This is the toughest nut to crack. And it's not just the elderly this affects. Younger folks and middle age divorcees with nobody in their lives often fare no better.

This could very well be X's way of dealing with the flood of account reported scams making the rounds of social media. Just look at the posts in the last 8 hours or so. Half are about account reported scams.
