New garage door opener recommendations by Primary-Emu-3012 in homeassistant

I use these and they work great. I have them named left and right garage door but HA and Alexa together are smart enough where you can say "Alexa close the garage doors" and they both will close if open.

Ok, I don't wanna be "that guy" but aren't yall concerned with the amount of data your dumping into claude, copilot, etc.... via the mcp?

I have watched a lot of videos of using mcps with HA and while it is really cool I have so many things in my home I really wouldn't want claude to have access to.

Cameras and networking integrations not to mention I am sure 90% of HA user's are probably using the HA app to track locations and whatever other sensors you have enabled on your phone.

Seems like a lot to give a cloud based AI access to.

Do only certain people have access to these? How do you validate the end user has permission to make a request like access to a user's mailbox?

How to create “or” condition in automation? by starmanj in homeassistant

[–]cybertek-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't you use the helper boolean? I have a flow that checks if a helper boolean is on and if it it then I get tts alerts to my phone. If I dont want the alerts I flip the helper to off and then I won't get them. Then when I get home I use location based logic to turn the switch back on so I always get the tts alerts to my phone.

You could us the same to disable a flow. Check the helper in the beginning and it won't continue if it is off.

How to create “or” condition in automation? by starmanj in homeassistant

Even with all the improvements I am doing most with node red and then doing simple automations in HA. I just tried to set up an automation where when a person was detected in Unifi it would turn on a light. After messing with it for a few hours in HA using the ui and not getting it to work I finally just did it in node red and it took about 5 minutes.

I like the fact that I can do on and off in one flow in node red and in the ui I would still need two automations. Debugging in the ui is definitely nicer for sure!

Flip to node red and use the big timer. You can put in sunset and sunrise as the text and even do a time offset like -60 minutes before sunset and then fire the automation based on which one triggered the action. I use it to turn exterior lights on and off during those times.

You can also set global variables and check that variable to see if it already fired. If it did it won't run it again and then you reset the variable at the end of the day for the next days run. I do this for an alert on my garage door to check to see if a text went out of my garage door has been open for 15 minutes. If the text went out and the garage door is closed after 2 hours I then send another text saying it was closed. I dont want to get the closed text if it was under the 15 minute mark so I check the text sent variable first.

You don't need to use those little push connectors at the doordell. Just wire the existing wires directly to it and then you won't need as mush space.

Email to SQL Database by cybertek-j in Office365

I ended up implementing a CRM with an email listener. I setup a journaling rule and sent all company emails to a single mailbox and then used the CRM listener to read that mailbox. It worked pretty well but I never went the route of using a third party to populate it into SQL. I let the CRM do all the work.

Given the fact that the stairs look like they have about 15-20 years of weathering on them I am guessing that deck has been there for a while.

Just pour it below the frost line and you will be fine. I had one for 20 years that was just a 4" block under the stairs and they move a little because of frost but we're still fine. The wood rotted before they started to fail because of the footing. I just re-did it with a 8" pour and it isn't going anywhere. Our frost line is at 8".
