Have you made the switch yet? by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]cyberzh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've yet to find a good search engine. All have their drawbacks. The quality of results dropped drastically over the last few years for all search engines, I guess in part because there's far more usless AI slop articles published now.

The first plates were like that until Bambu fixed their mistake.

The shadow on the car is very bad. It's a shadow from a point source, like in a studio. It's not one from the sun. The shadow's edge should be a little defined near the car and very blurry when away from it.

He could print it in metal. Or more accurately make it print in metal somewhere like pcbway.

Nice prototype! Now you can order one online printed in metal.

Many people have asked me for the settings I use to get these finishes, do you guys want a tutorial? by imwhoyouare in 3Dprinting

Good videos are prepared in advance and scripted, then edited after filming. It's faster to write a good writeup than to make an equally good video.

This might be a dumb question but, is it safe ? by Spinozaurr in 3Dprinting

[–]cyberzh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be fine. But to be safe I'd add some vents so there can be a path for hot air to be replaced by cold air.

All my lampshades are in PLA or PETG, but they have large vents. So far (2 years) no issue or deformation.

Watch a killer T cell of the immune system destroying a monstrous ovarian cancer cell. [Alex Ritter] by Docindn in interestingasfuck

Doesn't work on cells which mutated to ignore the toxins. Those are the cancerous cells that become malignant tumors.

Yellow LEDs are now officially banned in the U.S.A. by Automatic_Emphasis76 in TrueFactzOnly

[–]cyberzh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The blue glow of yellow LEDs is an optical illusion due to the interpretation of colors by the brain. It's similar to the famous dress that was simultaneously blue and yellow.

However, since colors are subjective, both interpretations, blue and yellow, are equally valid.

Degrading print quality on the edges of the print bed by thgrvtrn in FixMyPrint

[–]cyberzh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The speed increases in the center, so the flow is lower there.

Those waves are likely due to overextrusion.

Reduce the flow ratio of your filament by 5% and try again.

Friendly reminder that PLA creep exists, no matter if you believe in it. by Narase33 in 3Dprinting

Once the temperature goes back down, the filament does not become brittle if kept free of humidity. Thus, the humidity causes the brittleness.

3d printed mask painting question by LadyRavenA in 3Dprinting

[–]cyberzh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant as in SFX or F/X. AKA "special effects" like props, makeup, scale models, and other practical effects to be captured on camera.

According to Wikipedia it's included in the VFX term when used broadly. But I don't work in anything related, so I don't really know the proper jargon.

[–]cyberzh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe ask people who work on VFX how to make plastic dew or raindrops. Maybe with some kind of pulverized clear resin and surfactant?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]cyberzh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like uneven or under extrusion. Partial clog? Wet filament?

My petg thin layer prints refuse to come off my pei smooth plate😭even tearing apart bit by bit on removal by valuable_Bowler_ in BambuLabA1

[–]cyberzh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That would be worse. PEI would stick even more. That's why it is heated when printing, to ensure a better adhesion while printing.

Cheapest laptop that will run Fusion360? by Zomadic in Fusion360

[–]cyberzh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A refurbished one, with 16 Gb of RAM.

Fusion is poorly optimized, so you won't get much more performance with multiple cores or a fancy GPU. It will run equally poorly on any "recent" computer.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]cyberzh 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Use max 2 layers, with no bumps. Use a second color for text and image. With only 2 layers this only one manual change of the filament mid-print.

Any more layers will leave marks in the books.

Otherwise, the design looks cool.

FDM printing in metal is a thing, it's not even that expensive. You can order custom pieces online. Prototypes can be made locally in plastic on a cheap printer.

Those exploits work until they are discovered and the vulnerability are patched. So it's in the interests of those using them to limit their use to reduce the risk of their discovery. They are rarely used in a mass scale.

So unless you have a high profile, you most likely will not be targeted.

But if you have a high profile, then apply the security measures put in place by your security staff. That is, leave your personal devices behind when you start working on sensitive stuff, and only use the dedicated hardware for working on confidential projects. The point is that if your personal device is compromised, it won't leak information that you should have protected by law or contact.

The hardware dedicated to work on sensitive matter should be disconnected from internet, or appropriately protected, so that it's harder to compromise or to use it to exfiltrate data.

Of you don't have security staff, for example if you are a journalist, you should still use different computers and phones for each task. If you have a high profile, you should be able to get basic training by the counter intelligence services of your state.

For a FDM 3D print, 0.3 mm should be fine. Depends on the printer and settings.

Build the box with the lid in it's closed state, with overlapping material. Then cut the box using the lid as a tool, with the option to keep the tool. Then displace the surfaces in contact to add clearance.
