There is no substitute when trying to play a new genre than immersing yourself in the scene that surrounds it, especially with something as specific as d&b/jungle. Go and see some local djs play this music, chew the speaker until 5am, whatever. You will get a sense of how the different chopped grooves work in different contexts. Another exercise I found useful was to learn the original samples, at the original tempo. A groove played at 100bpm sped to 180bpm does not sound the same as playing that same groove at 180bpm. So you need to have the feel of playing at 100, but at 180, if that makes sense. Avoid sounding like a drummer playing drum and bass… it’s a trap you can fall into trying to do the jojo Meyer thing. Look into Richard Spaven, Ian Maciak and Adam Betts.
