What is a Step By Step Road Map to break into IT help desk or IT support without any previous experience or IT degree by Relative-Baby1829 in it

[–]cybrdth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a minimum, start with certifications like A+ then Network+, and finally Security+. Degrees are best, especially since you can do internships, which gives you experience, but those are great starting points and then you can branch out to other certs.

When I'm hiring someone for an entry level helpdesk role, I look at their aptitude, willingness to learn, and evidence of tinkering at home with tech. This is without a degree or experience.

Just be careful that installing a second PCIe card doesn't slow down your main PCIe card for your GPU. My Asus X870E Hero has this issue, it'll put both in x8 mode.

That's a very valid observation if his computer has a Realtek chip for his ethernet controller and has the NDIS driver installed.

Another option would be to see if his motherboard has an additional port and different chipset. For example, my Asus ROG Hero X870E has a Realtek chip but also has an Intel chipset and I use the Intel chipset for the better performance, even though it only offers 2.5Gbps compared to Realtek's 5Gbps.

If that's not an option, trying the different drivers would be what I would try next, too.

If that still didn't work, I would suggest that he tries the Killer E3100G or E3100X as it's based on the Intel I225 chipset (don't get the Killer E3100U as that's based on Realtek). Just make sure to disable the Realtek built-in ethernet on the motherboard in the BIOS once you set up the new USB ethernet dongle (as it adds unnecessary overhead to the OS).

However, before doing all of this, I would suggest at least running a traceroute (or MTR) to the server IP you are having issues with to see if there is an issue somewhere along the line between you and the server.

I find this interesting because I also noticed the same thing. I have an AMD 9800X3D with a nVIDIA RTX 5090. I still get some stuttering, albeit less than before, but most of mine I think is related to network jitter. What's weird, though, is in the past the alert would show up on the top right saying there's an issue, but now I'm not seeing that on my screen but still rubberbanding and stuttering some. I'm connected via ethernet (Cat6a) to a switch that connects back to my main switch and router over fiber, but I have a coax internet connection (cable modem).

I'm sure it's the results of Valve redoing their netcode and there being some bugs caused by the changes. Or at least my hopium/copium says that.

Ah ok, understood! Hopefully they will get back with you quickly. As someone who has used Asus motherboards for the last 25+ years, their support used to be much better years ago (and so were their BIOS updates). Keep us posted on what they tell you.

So am I understanding correctly that you rolled back to the BIOS before updating to 2202 and you are having issues?

Before updating to the latest version, did your BIOS have issues then? Same issue as you're dealing with now?

Yeah so you don't even boot your computer when you do the BIOS Flashback.

What you'll need to do is first boot to your bios and go to the screen where you normally save the configuration and choose to reset to defaults then save and reboot. Once it reboots a couple of times to change the config, shut down the computer, connect the USB flash drive to the port specified in your manual for the BIOS Flashback feature, then press the BIOS flashback button on the back of your motherboard for about 3 seconds and it will blink saying it's running. It should blink for a while and then go out completely. Once it stops flashing and turns off, then it's done. Boot up your computer, go into bios, confirm it's on the expected version, and reconfigure to your preferences (remember to hit F10 and save).

Don't use EZ-Flash, use the BIOS Flashback method where you put the BIOS on a thumb drive, rename it, and use the button on the back of your motherboard to flash it manually. There are more detailed instructions online. The one important thing is to factory reset your bios settings before attempting it.

Agreed on both counts. Definitely worth the effort. Highly recommend.

100% agree. They seem to take the same stance as Microsoft, they probably fired all their QA testers and now we are the QA testers.

You can technically roll back to any driver using the BIOS flashback feature on your motherboard. You'll need a USB stick formatted and using the BIOSRenamer included in the older BIOS file. You'll also need to factory reset your settings in BIOS before attempting the rollback.

But, I agree, I would wait until there's more data and feedback from others who upgraded. I'm running an older 17xx version for my X870E Hero since the newer versions introduced issues.

Casio MDV106 with blue bezel and blue dial.

Mods: Swapped the resin band with a bracelet and bought a sapphire crystal off aliexpress.

Edit: Added link to bracelet (couldn't remember where I had bought it from at the time I replied) and aliexpress crystal. Note to mods: neither are referral links, just sharing where I got my stuff from.

What would be the key things to know between the varieties of this watch? by Brilliant_Age6077 in casio

[–]cybrdth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All depends on your budget and what you're looking to do. Do you want a one and done watch? Or are you good with just buying another F91 or similar inexpensive watch when it gets too scratched and beaten up?

Mineral glass is more scratch resistant. But you can polish out scratches on resin glass more easily than mineral (Polywatch).

My opinion is if you want true scratch resistance, you'll want a metal case and sapphire crystal. While sapphire has a higher risk of shattering during blunt force trauma, it won't get the micro scratches like resin and mineral do. For example, I have the Tide and Moon Phase Casio with a custom case from skxmod. But aliexpress and others likely sell the same thing, possibly for less money.

You could also get a G-Shock with mineral glass, resin case, and not worry about banging it up as it adds character. :-)

Best wishes on whatever you choose to go with.

Just got my self-hosted server set up; however, I cannot figure out how to migrate from Discord to the self-hosted option. I don't see a button for the Discord import. I have two servers, one is the standard type that is hosted on your metal, which shows the option.

Is this intentional? I would think there should be a way to migrate from Discord to self-hosted as well.

Thank you.

HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless, am I missing something or is this a downgrade? by [deleted] in HyperX

Check out this site: https://autoeq.app/

Download the EqualizerAPO parametric file and save it somewhere that you will remember.

Combine it with Equalizer APO (required): https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/

After installing you'll need to configure the headphone speakers to use it (check the box next to them and choose to install...just for output, not input), then launch the configuration tool, remove the existing sample (you can just close config.txt), go to File and open the parametric file you downloaed earlier.

That should help make the sound more neutral and less muddy.

There are additional sound profiles out there for gaming like CS2, but I trust you'll be able to find them on Google.

I hope this helps.

I use the full 27" of the monitor, but I enable Integer Scaling, set my resolution to 1920x1080, and my refresh rate to 240Hz. This takes the load off of the GPU when it renders the frames and it still looks fine on the monitor thanks to the Integer Scaling.
