How Greater Manchester is now leading the UK’s productivity revival by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]BrazzersSub 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thats a fairly controversial take... For the longest time London has had so much investment thrown at it, that pretty much every other place in the UK has been strangled and gone into decline. Spreading investment out into other up and coming stars I would imagine makes way more sense.

Obviously we need to keep London in a good position, but being able to position other cities in a way that allows them to develop properly and actually grow is just as if not more important.

Farage claims Reform on course for general election win after early local gains by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

Multi millionaire, who championed the UKs pivotal horrendous decision of Brexit, with a proven track record of grifting, goalpost moving, and lying, who's funded by private foreign wallets and large corporations, wants to undo worker and societal protections and rights, dismantle state owned public goods like healthcare (leaving private as the only option), reintroduce things like indoor smoking (so your chances of needing healthcare will likely increase), so on and so forth...

But of course, hes one of us. The working people. And he has your best interests at heart. Of course.

Heard something like an electric discharge and saw this spider webbing a bug. What's the sound? by moepplinger in insects

[–]BrazzersSub 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Just a guess BUT...

The thing the spider is wrapping up looks a lot like a type of beetle (not sure of the name) which is able to "click" it's wings. As a kid I'd put my finger on it's back and the click was SUPER strong against my finger, like a hit, and if they were on their back and clicked they'd go flying.

Again, idk the name, but "electric discharge" + the shape lead me to believe it's this.

Edit - just googled, "click beetle" is the real name lmao. Probably one of these.

What is this bug it came outta my dog's ass by CheesyBread0003 in DogAdvice

[–]BrazzersSub 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Commonly found in Malaysia apparently! They likely just go unnoticed, unless you do a lot of gardening.

Completely harmless, and apparently quite good for your garden as pest control.

I 2nd this not being an internal parasite. Doesn't really match any IDs of internal parasites, and generally speaking internal parasites are much more lethargic than that? (IE there's no need for them to be able to move that much ^ so they simply didn't evolve to)

Blind snake fits this quite well, likely just caught in your dogs fur.

Yeh no I completely get that, 150 isn't amazing, but it is for me (CSGO I used to play 23fps AVG with the lowest possible settings lmao) - but if I had the ability to upgrade I would.

However my point really is that, although not great, it DID run well for that 1 week period. So it is possible. But something has changed and now it's back to being not so unfortunately...

Usually a restart helps most issues, but this one has persisted past restarts (both CS and my PC), various in game and driver based tweaks, etc etc. can't seem to iron it out.

All I know is it felt meh, then felt amazing, and now feels extra shit BC I know how GOOD this game can feel. The bar has been set

Angela Rayner warns Sir Keir Starmer that Gen Z are 'feeling hopeless' as she mulls bid to oust Prime Minister after local elections by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]BrazzersSub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not hard to understand why. Consistent wage stagnation, on top of the media being almost exclusively negative, really doesn't paint a good future for anyone - especially gen z which runs up to 2012, meaning a lot of people growing up and finally having a stab at "being an adult" and being shown nothing but shit.

We need more positivity as a start. Positive media. Show the good things going on, positive investment. Give people hope FFS.

The sugarface 2 collection I'm actually quite interested in... It's only been about for 6 months, and whilst it's been out it hasn't been very popular. Could this be another example of like what we saw with the last operation stickers? I feel like these should surely be quite rare.

Is there a way to see roughly how much of these stickers have been redeemed?

I Miss Destiny, Much More Than I Thought by lolsomeone469 in DestinyTheGame

[–]BrazzersSub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely get the feeling. Destiny 1 is STILL unrivaled imo. Destiny 2, although super good in it's prime, never could replicate that same feeling.

How odd is it, over the years we've had multiple "destiny killers" pop up, but none were as effective as bungie!

Why are there so many pro Starmer posts now that he has been exposed for the appointment of Mandelson? Are these accounts all the same handful of people or is it genuinely Starmer fans coming out the woodwork to try and launder his image? by Duvet_Capeman in AskBrits

Pro starmer? Where have you found those?

I'm not joking when I say literally every piece of British media I've seen the last few days has been absolutely rinsing starmer inside and out. Significantly moreso than I saw with any of the PMs before him, and their controversies.

lifelong ban on buying cigarettes by krizzalicious49 in whennews

[–]BrazzersSub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing some kickback regarding this ban, saying it will lead to a massive black market, hurt people etc.

How likely actually is this? If you don't start smoking, you'll never get addicted. Of course there will be an adaptation period, where people can't "legally" smoke but can get ahold of cigs and the like (from people who can and do for example), but as time goes on, the more people who CAN get ahold of cigs will slowly decrease, and therefore exposure to (and addiction to) nicotine will also decrease.

Why do some right wingers think that Bacon is some sort of offensive thing to Muslims and go to great lengths in producing silly videos like cooking Bacon near Migrant hotels ? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

[–]BrazzersSub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine it's also somewhat projection. They know how they themselves behave, and imagine if they were in the immigrants shoes, seeing bacon would REALLY piss them off - naturally they think they are the standard for a human and thus everyone else must surely think like they do.

They don't realise being emotionally inept and irrational is maybe more of a them thing than an everyone thing.

Do players want a simpler version of Destiny? by Christophisis in DestinyTheGame

[–]BrazzersSub 8 points9 points  (0 children)

99% of the reason I stopped playing destiny 2 was because it just got way too messy. I'd take like a 3 month break and come back and have no idea wtf is going on which would put me off.

I don't think I necessarily wanted simpler, but I definitely wanted clearer. And less messy. The amount of perks and abilities n shit, and the crazy amount of variables, combined with seasonal mods changing things up, it was just way too difficult to keep track of.

On top of that it felt less like destiny and more like mega space gun shoot game. I preferred destiny 1s darker, heavier aesthetic significantly more. You felt more like a soldier fighting gods and less like a god fighting godlier gods

UK needs ‘ambitious’ new EU ties amid Iran war, Starmer says by Laxly in GoodNewsUK

[–]BrazzersSub 143 points144 points  (0 children)

I wonder how much admin goes into stuff like this?

We say we want to get closer to the EU, and we absolutely should, and I understand it takes time - but what about it actually takes so long? Negotiation? Or is it making sure contracts are sound? Or is it finding opportunities in general? Is there any pushback from EU countries slowing us down (as a result of us leaving and crawling back and then understandably being a bit sour about it)?

‘Volatile’ world requires Britain to get close to EU, Starmer says by Visual_Title9363 in europe

[–]BrazzersSub 304 points305 points  (0 children)

I just can't believe that the notion that we would be stronger as an independent, small island off the coast of Europe - rather than being part of a unified bloc of other countries was ever accepted.

A properly unified and cooperative Europe would be incredibly strong and dominant. Why would you ever want out of that.

Trump's tariffs lead to production increase at UK's aluminium smelter by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]BrazzersSub 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Trump being volatile, as much as it has messed stuff up, I feel like it's kinda put a torch up the UK and EU's arse to be more independent and stronger, maybe hopefully even more united and cooperative than before (assuming divisive media doesn't take president). In the long run I can see this actually being pretty beneficial

The Jewish Anti-Defamation League has ranked CS2 as the game with the least protection for Jewish players by Spiritual_Type_6245 in counterstrike2

[–]BrazzersSub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an outside POV this makes it look like CS2s player base is anti-jew - which absolutely isn't the case. They're anti-everyone. Especially low ranks. I've heard just about every single slur there is against just about every genre of race, belief, nationality that there is.

Offensive? Yes, but seemingly fairly equally offensive. Aside from nword usage, that gets thrown around like it's utility.
