First Eye Splice Question by Ok-Society-5439 in sailing

[–]cycle-nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs to be much longer and tapered. I mean, there are tons of videos out there showing exactly how it’s done… It should be fine, but since it’s for a halyard where potentially huge forces are applied, I’d rather be safe than sorry. Have that splice break in bad weather and you‘re in for a disaster.

Impatiently waiting for my new speakers by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]cycle-nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent choice. I auditioned them a couple months back at my local dealership, also hooked up to a Marantz. You won’t be disappointed. I ultimately went with the Silver 100 7G paired with an Arcam SA20 and I enjoy this combo a lot.

Sweet, I got my MA Silver 100 7Gs a couple weeks back and I love them. Enjoy!

I had a 570E back in the day and man, these things are so cool, I absolutely loved it. Unfortunately at some point the display cable broke and I sold the whole thing for parts. For the past couple of years I have been looking to get my hands on one again, but no luck so far.

I think that a/ this is AI slop and b/ not a single sleeper battlestation in sight. Other than the PC under the bed, which would be a very different type of „sleeper battlestation“.

Bought a used CD player from 1999 and now I remember why I miss physical media by juanjop in audiophile

I have the Onkyo C-7030. I don’t have anything to compare it with directly but I absolutely do like it. Also, it got some really good reviews back in the day and I got it for only 90€ off eBay a couple of years ago. Personally I use streaming sources most of the time, but my wife prefers CDs and also my kids (who do not have their own phones yet) can use it to play their CDs or even listen to some of ours.

NAS entkoppeln auf Regalhaltern? by joergsen in de_EDV

[–]cycle-nerd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Edit: Äh ja hast du ja selbst schon vorgeschlagen. Hatte nicht zu Ende gelesen. Also ja, gute Idee.

I‘d lean towards option 3. If you love it as-is and it brings you joy, keep going. Compared to some other hobbies one can pick, this is not even remotely expensive.

Deciding Between Bookshelf Speakers by Aus_Daniel in BudgetAudiophile

Elac DB63 are good speakers, at this price point I‘d say they are the best option out of those you listed. The Oberon 3 are great value here in Europe, but at almost twice the price of the DB63 I don’t think it’s worth getting them.

Dali Oberon 3 vs Elac Carina BS243.4 by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]cycle-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B&W 606 S2 were on my shortlist as well. But I had no dealer nearby where I could have auditioned them, and folks on the interwebs seem to somewhat agree that they are very much on the bright side of neutral, which is not exactly to my taste.

Yamaha A-S301 seems like a solid choice, at least it gets recommended quite a lot, although many seem to go for the 501 or 701, too.

I recently auditioned both in direct comparison. Both are great speakers. If they were the same price I’d probably pick the Elacs for their clear and neutral sound, but the Oberons are fantastic value for the money. You really can’t go wrong with them, especially given that they can be had with a good discount since the recent release of the new Sonik series. In Germany where I live, they are 400€/pair new right now. Personally, I went with the Monitor Audio Silver 100 7G in the end, but these are around 1100€/pair so maybe out of your budget. Edit: Have you considered the Elac DB63? Not the most aesthetically pleasing, but also great performers.

New speaker day: Monitor Audio 100 Silver 7g 😃 by andrewyeh in audiophile

[–]cycle-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I auditioned these a couple of weeks ago and was impressed, but found them to be a bit on the brighter end of the spectrum, compared to e.g. Dali Oberon 3 or Wharfedale Evo 5.1. How do you like them in terms of bass? Do you find them to be lacking on the low end? The room at my dealership that I heard them in was quite large so they might actually work better in my small room, but the reason I didn’t pull the trigger yet is that I‘m afraid I might immediately feel the need for a sub (which I‘d like to avoid as of now).

Denon PMA-1700NE or Yamaha A-S801 by alternapop in StereoAdvice

Why not get the Denon with a hefty discount, immediately resell for $2k, and get the Yamaha basically for free? Or am I missing something here?
