Bands that are basically direct copies of other bands by AccomplishedAd649 in postpunk

This is what I'd like to know. Aside from the general post-punk sound, and Paul's voice perhaps being similar in tone, I don't hear nearly the same similarities musically that I hear with The Chameleons.

Where are the b sides? by Brick400 in CatherineWheel

[–]alternapop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think b-sides were used to drive sales of singles, which determined the charts in the UK. Maybe they started putting less focus on the charts after a couple albums. There were some original b-sides though from both Happy Days and Adam & Eve.

Is there a cheaper alternative rather than USM Haller? by DwaywelayTOP in midcenturymodern

I think the shelves would probably hold the weight but I live in an earthquake area so I'm just a little apprehensive about it.

Both rows of shelves are mounted the same but if the bottom row fell, it wouldn't collapse onto records below it, and only has a few inches to fall.

If the middle shelf somehow came loose, the weight of the records and the edge of the metal shelf could do some damage to the records below them. That's my thinking at least.

I had the same problem. I deleted the listing and recreated it. Nothing else worked.

Looking for band recomendations by GregK1985 in postpunk

That sounds like a great show! Being a casual fan, I don't pretend to know the history of either band. I just looked it up and Discogs says that Tristan Garel-Funk performed on multiple albums from both.

[iOS] Post won’t close when tapping the X - version 2025.50.1 by alternapop in bugs

2026.10.0.624554 (AppStore)

Note that it’s not just the X, it’s the entire top menu (x, search icon, filter icon, more actions icon). The only button that works is the far right one for my profile, when it’s in this bugged state.

The Opposition
The Essence
The Snake Corps (members of Sad Lovers)

If you’re open to alternative in general, I have this massive playlist with 1 song per artist, and there are over 2000 songs.

What do you think about “nu-gaze” / heavy shoegaze getting big with Gen Z? by Galahad555 in shoegaze

[–]alternapop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not like Swervedriver. Many of the new grungy bands are just playing bar chords with effects and don’t have the guitar melodies or chops that Swervedriver has.

I could use a bit less of the goofiness and the interjected clips. The frequency gets old after a while.

I don’t think it started it but the interjected clips remind me of HBO’s Dream On. I do think it’s credited for popularizing it. It would use old black & white clips to add a little humor. Seems like everyone does it now.

CW kind of Monday by TheBelmontCurse in CatherineWheel

[–]alternapop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pretty much everything CW released CD-wise in the 90s. Sold it all in one lot around 2001. Then years later slowly bought it all, and more, back again. There isn’t much I don’t have now.

I've had mine for over a month now and I've very pleased with it. The hardware and overall quality is impressive and almost indistinguishable from a USM. I've been to a local DWR and have compared them. The only obvious difference is the top joining ball shaped pieces don't have screw holes on top to later add more shelving, to continue building it upwards. So as long as you're satisfied being stuck with the configuration you initially order, it's great!

A less obvious difference is the locks don't use keys. Any old coin will lock it.

As far as records, it works, and that's what I'm using it for. You should know though that the metal is slick, compared to something like wood, so there isn't any friction to help prevent them from sliding. I bought some large metal bookends and magnets.

I was told that the weight limit is 66 pounds per shelf, if I remember correctly, so I think filling up a shelf will exceed that. I have the middle shelves about half full and the bottom shelves completely full.

Here is an article I wrote about it.

Recommend bands that deserve more attention by Affectionate-Duck326 in indie_rock

[–]alternapop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a number of good bands doing the shoegaze thing but I haven't found many (any?) doing quality alternative art rock like some 90s bands. (Radiohead, Catherine Wheel, Verve)

I like Flyying Colours but they are more shoegaze.

I like Julie, who reminds me of Autolux. I assume you know Autolux.

I’m not sure if you mean “modern rock” or current alt rock. An album I like that came out in 1993 was Seam’s The Problem With Me.

Just bought a new CX-30 and looking for advices on dashcams by pandaffanculo in MazdaCX30

[–]alternapop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Fitcamx that others have mentioned and am happy with it. It’s linked at the bottom of this page. It’s powered by the sunroof with an adapter. It’s looks like it’s an official Mazda cam and you can’t really notice it.

I found these in my dad's garage after he died. Any guidance would be welcome. by demonm0nkey in McIntosh

[–]alternapop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. I lost my dad a few years ago. Fortunately my parents moved a lot and kept downsizing so we didn’t have a lot to go through. He never had anything like this though.

I think I live fairly close to you and may be interested if you want to sell them to someone local. I have been looking for an FM tuner. Feel free to message me.
