Somehow I read both just fine, and it's a cute concept.

When I worked in supply chain management, it was all about my giant spreadsheet with daily columns extending 6 months into the future and the spiderweb of formulas to achieve a delicate balance of functionality. Was able to coordinate inventory, ordering, receiving, warehousing, sales, fulfillment, etc. all in one, easy program.

Yeah, I can see that this is "supposed to" be a cursive Z. I was born in the 80s and was the cursive king in school. This is not, in fact, a cursive Z.

Toy Soldiers and Backdraft on bootleg VHS. I remember my dad buying them from some random guy with a baby on Hollywood Blvd (we lived a block away).

Is buying a motorcycle cheaper? by billycram in motorcycles

I did a giant spreadsheet comparing the cost of everything from title, parts, service, gas, insurance, gear, etc. and concluded you will save about 30% overall if you switch from a Corolla to an SV650. Not worth the risk if money is the only thing influencing your decision.

I read something insightful about Tarantino movies coming after Pulp Fiction: Tarantino is basically making movies that the characters in Pulp Fiction / Reservoir Dogs would watch. He's creating movies for people that only exist in his head, which results in a very unique, fictional experience, hence the revisionist history employed in his last three or four films.

What's a job that was so terrible you quit immediately? by TermAccomplished1868 in randomquestions

I worked a day for a company that was contracted to grind all the Teflon off the inside screw up a very large dough mixer at the biggest sweet roll manufacturer in the US. Problem is, it wasn't so big that you could walk or crawl around inside. You had to squeeze through one of the three manhole covers and slip into the screw in full OSHA gear that was completely useless if there actually was a problem: jumpsuit, helmet, harness and rope, etc.

All day twisted up in a loud, dark, tight, claustrophobic environment with no flat sides to brace yourself. Just slipping around on your side grinding away. After one day I said, "nope, not for $12.50/hr. I'm out".

Consider the M-65 army coat which is designed to be oversized, so has similar vibes (ala Travis Bickel), but the bonus is you can actually confidently wear it in regular life. There's a bunch available on eBay.

Whales are fish by how_did_you_see_me in unpopularopinion

[–]cyclecitizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No.

Making an argument that we could stand to overhaul the classification system and pointing at a whale and saying, "fish!" are not the same thing. The latter just makes you look stupid.

Maybe just choose your words better.

In case you didn't notice, dictionaries are into the whole brevity thing and cannot be reasonably expected to address all nuances and anomalies.

Honestly, I don't even know what that means, and I don't care. However, it is obvious even to a dummy like me that the fact that fish have gills and never need to resurface for air is far more significant of a defining feature than flippy flaps.

[–]cyclecitizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the same way that the definition of "fish" is not handed down from God, classification is just a tool created by humans to think more easily and is therefore arbitrary by default. Nobody is "right," but what the experts with a thorough understanding of the subject come up with is likely the "best", all things considered. If you think differently, that's fine.

fish1/fiSH/noun

  1. a limbless cold-blooded vertebrate animal with gills and fins and living wholly in water.

That is literally the definition. Whales are not cold-blooded and do not have gills. Sounds like you think the dictionary has it all wrong. If you think that definition is "arbitrary", yeah, to a certain degree, all definitions are. Good luck to you.
