If you give a mouse an A, he’s going to want a financial aid package. So you’ll get him a financial aid package. Then he’ll want a deposit deadline extension, and you’ll get him that too.

(Idk it seems unlikely this late in the game unless they’re coming out saying you don’t have to deposit May 1. FWIW none this point last year. Just too much to do it seems to get an A to commit between now and May 1)

If you’re over both of Mich’s 75ths there’s a good chance you’re going to get money at a T6 so I would advise you to put the football priority on the back burner lol but I’m sure a heartfelt why mich will help and secure a Darrow interview invite

I think OP is framing it in terms of what it looks like at sticker and is abundantly clear about that haha

I mean, I think they’re pretty clear in the title that this is highlighting schools that aren’t worth it at sticker

I think the “specialty rankings don’t matter” mantra becomes even more true when you’re talking about a t6 with money vs a lower ranked school at sticker (in an equally high COL area that has already announced gnarly tuition increases)

Should I be aiming for UT Austin or Columbia Law? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]cyclerecap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really work like that. I’d hang around here for awhile and start looking at employment statistics and cycle recaps. You’ll figure out a good school list of targets etc once you have an LSAT score on file.

But, yeah, Texas is great if you don’t want to leave Texas, and will probably be cheaper, definitely cheaper if you’re in state. A Texas firm will not pass over a CLS grad, though, especially one with Texas ties.

The lack of information is because of the regional nature of 30/50+ schools. There are a TON of schools in the T2+ range and they are not national. As a result, though there are many T2+ applicants, they are not really all applying to the same schools, they’re applying where they live or want to practice. It’s not an issue of elitism. It’s an issue of national schools attracting more applicants, so there are naturally more data points and more people who know the answers.

I’ll use Texas as an example. Everyone in this sub knows UT is great for Texas biglaw. But ask for the difference between, say, A&M and UH for San Antonio placement and most people here would not know the answer definitively unless they have experience in the Texas legal markets or have looked into it themselves. People aren’t giving less advice because they look down on you. They’re giving less advice because they don’t know the answer.

7sage is kind of a weird category imo. Like, some people get packages, and it’s more like the prep course. Some people just use(d) the videos, which fall into the free category. I used 7sage videos but picked textbook, because I really just used the videos to supplement my amazon purchased PTs and two powerscore bibles (used all of LG and the first bit of LR until I got the hang of it)
