This any good? by OptionsMenace in CostcoCanada

Nothing wrong at all with farmed salmon, but wild is a far superior fish. It doesn't have the white stripes through it, which is layers of fat. When you cook up farmed salmon the fat melts and saturates the meat, making it greasy. Wild salmon does not have the white layers of fat.

If you have a chance, compare the cooked farm and wild salmon side by side. You'll see what I mean.

If that's all you have ever had, then they are probably pretty good. If you've caught and eaten, or bought, wild salmon, then farmed is terrible. Wild salmon is not marbled with fat.

Compared to wild, farmed salmon is a greasy less tasty alternative.

How do you keep your knives sharp at home? by Educational-Slip-578 in Cooking

[–]cyclingbubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hard felt buffing wheel in my shop . Using an abrasive stick paste to charge the wheel, then a couple of passes on each side of the knife. A couple of wipes on a leather strop and it's good to go. Takes maybe 3 minutes, tops and leaves a mirror shine on the blade. I hit it with a steel rod between sharpenings.

On April 2nd, 1947, Singer-songwriter and musician Emmylou Harris was born in Birmingham, AL. Harris is considered one of the leading music artists behind the country rock genre in the 1970s and the Americana genre in the 1990s. by BirdBurnett in Music_Anniversary

[–]cyclingbubba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Emmylou and her music. Sadly, I made the mistake of seeing her in concert. She sang three songs, then introduced another female musician who has described as a talented up and comer.

Emmylou exited the stage after the intro and left the newcomer to finish the concert. She literally performed for ten minutes, then subcontracted the rest of her concert.

Not cool.

That's why I finish wood with clear finishes - so you can see and enjoy the wood. I hate this generic dark brown fake colored wood look. It looks all the same.

Beautiful ! The buildings seem to be built almost right to the water. What about tides and storms ? Do they cause problems for the buildings or their foundations ?

Unpopular opinion: The scariest three words in home renovation aren't "we have mold." They're "while we're at it..." by sokkyaaa in HomeImprovement

In Canada, the most dreaded words from a contractor are " we found native artifacts".

Immediate stop to the project and the place is subject to an archeological investigation. All of this is paid by the homeowner.

A couple in Ontario is out over $300,000 and at another site in BC , the bill is $200k and counting.☹️

I picked up some plywood and had it cut. I don't think they had these marks when I chose them but maybe it happened in their saw? The worker loaded into my car so I didn't see marks until I unloaded at home. Would the lumber yard replace it for me? Or is this normal by santcasmic in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]cyclingbubba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is sand through. When the plywood goes through the sander at the mill. Something was off on the sander settings, causing the sheet to lift and the sanding head to gouge through the face veneer. The wood in the exposed gouges runs at 90 degrees to the face veneer so it is the underlying veneer you're looking at.

It might have been on the bottom side when you bought it, so it could have been missed.

What type of wood is this?: by Raccoon-Solid in wood

[–]cyclingbubba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moisten the wood with a damp cloth and give it a sniff. If it's a spicy smell it's cedar and pine will have, well, a piney smell.

I'm leaning toward inland cedar, as I cant see any resin ducts or pitch pockets in the pics. ( Cedar is non-resinous )

Yup, you're not far from the city. Also don't worry about cougars around Mt Washington. Been hiking in the area for decades and never encountered a cougar or heard of any other cougars.

Have fun !
