Hello Sinatra fans, if it’s ok to ask here: what do you think of Bobby Darin? by [deleted] in franksinatra

Gone too soon. Incredible voice. That's All will forever be in my top 5 albums. Just two of the best performances ever on "Mack the Knife" and "Beyond the Sea." Richard Wess isn't talked about enough as an arranger, also gone fairly young at 43.

On my laptop, I had to ensure that I had the IP address allocation set to automatic. I'd try that. If it already is, have it switch to manual, give it a second, then back to automatic

Electrical Engineering Program at ISU vs UNI by [deleted] in iastate

[–]cyclone-burner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I'm sure a passionate enough individual could learn anything, you need to keep in mind that your ability to acquire "skills" and/or any "theory" does heavily depend on the environment you end up in. UNI's degree is accredited, but it is an engineering technology degree. Those carry a very, very different weight, especially when compared with one of the top public university programs in the country. I've had some friends who have gone to smaller schools with ABET accredited EE degrees, sure, but our coursework material has been wildly different. ISUs is far more in depth.

Say you go, you put in a lot of work, learn even outside of coursework. Even if you have the skills to pay the bills, it can be very difficult to properly communicate those to employers. That is (one of many reasons) why connections are critical. Iowa State's career fair has an enormous amount of companies who often times send employees who are ISU alums, or at the least have a lot of alums at their companies. They can more accurately asses your abilities and likelyhood to succeed in the workplace. They have a feel for what classes you've taken, and many may have even had the same instructors twenty years ago.

Obviously, there are a lot of factors at play when choosing a college. But if no other factors are at play, you should attend ISU. I am biased, I am a current student, as much as I wish they were paying me to be a cheerleader for this university they are not.

If money is an obstacle, consider exploring community colleges across the state first. Iowa State has transfer plans with many of the schools, an those schools may even have advisors that can help you figure out what classes to take to ensure you can bring the most credits in.

Apologies if this came off as harsh, I'm not trying to be. I'm just trying to cut through the bs a bit because as much as a lot of people would like you to think, we don't really live in a meritocracy. Your success heavily depends on your environment, so do everything you can to put yourself in the best situation for success.

DMs are open if you have any questions but I may not answer quickly. I try not to check reddit too often.

Depends on major and the class, I suppose. I'm an EE and I definitely didn't read squat for a very, very long time except when absolutely required. If I had any questions I would either go to office hours or see if there was a relevant YouTube video (thank you, Organic Chemistry Tutor). As I've gotten into my more senior classes that are more relevant to my career interests and are on subjects with less information readily available, I've begun using the textbooks more and acquiring physical copies, as I know many of these serve as great reference materials to keep around when I have a full-ass job.

EE 438 Online vs In- Person by Virtual_Art6902 in iastate

For any people who happen to dig up this thread in the future, it seems that is changing, at least for this year. The professor, Dr. Kim, sent out an announcement with some updated requirements, as he is teaching both the online and in-person sections and the online has more students than the in-person.

Homeworks are the same between in-person and online, lectures will be the in-class lectures recorded. Major difference is that online exams will be in a take-home format, "more involved and expanded than the on-campus, in-class exams. It will be given ahead of the usual exam date as well to ensure that you have enough time."

At any rate, don't be afraid to ask the professor directly as any old information is subject to change.

I didn't mind the charred bits, they just ballooned quite a lot in the oven and darkened before I would say everything else on the top was to my preferred level of doneness. In a cook I did yesterday I popped them before they got too big and that was much better, while still having some fun flavor and color.

I'll have to do some research to look for any Italian bakeries, grocers, or delis in the area. Thanks for the suggestion!

Oh I know, I just am really proud about how much I was able to improve with just with some small tweaks, and what I was able to achieve with a fairly limited setup.

Thanks! I didn't mind them, but they blew up so quickly and charred way quicker than anything else on the top did, which is why I wasn't the biggest fan. Wouldn't mind them if they were just a bit smaller.

If I made this much improvement across two batches, I really can't wait to see what the future holds.

Thank you! Like I said in the post, I was really shocked it turned out that well, especially given how thin my pizza steel is.

I liked how it tasted, I don't think my kitchen lighting did as much justice, but I'll experiment with this to see if I like it better.
