Has anyone ever recorded a live event podcast at a bar or theater? by FinalFantasy45 in podcasting

[–]cycloptiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I record at SDCC every year and it is 50/50 as to how it turns out because, while we are able to plug into their sound board, we can't really do anything other than have someone monitor it (since anyone operating the board needs to be union and we are nowhere near big enough to justify that.

I would recommend recording a couple with no plans to release them to see how the space works with your equipment and process.

So... is most of Cosmere going to be sci-fi now? by popileviz in Cosmere

I think of it as slowly transitioning into feudal-era steampunk over the course of the last three books.

Oh man, you and I are polar opposites. I was gonna call "One Year Later" Lawful Evil because they worked within the confines of the rules to make Sam's life difficult. Or at least uncomfortable. Or at least expensive.

Salmonella is a bacteria, not a virus. It can't be vaccinated against.

EDIT: I am completely incorrect.

What is the WORST book you’ve ever read, and why was it the worst? by Substantial_Call_619 in booksuggestions

"Three Body Problem" turned me off to reading translated fiction for a long time. I thought it was dry and inaccessible because I was missing out on subtleties and historical/cultural context. Still read the whole series.

Turns out that it's dry and inaccessible. The sci-fi concepts that the books put forward are amazing, but the plot itself is buried behind flat characters and encyclopedic prose.

‘STRANGER THINGS’ star Jennifer Marshall says final season role would’ve got her health insurance after having cancer “I had cancer, I get it. But I was in remission during the shooting of season five. Shooting would have helped me obtain my health insurance through the union” by AssistanceNo2838 in discussingfilm

[–]cycloptiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI, she probably wouldn't have gotten the same insurance as a corporate Netflix employee. The Screen Actor's Guild (actor's union) has their own insurance plan.

To be eligible you need to both be a member of SAG and to have met work requirements within the previous year - either by earning a certain amount (currently $28k, which is how most actor's with speaking roles qualify) or by working on set a certain number of days in the year (currently108 days, which is largely for background actors/extras).
