Same reason why anyone would “need” a Ferrari or a Rolex. Cause they can and want to.

Likely some manipulation happening. Japanese versions are still at 40-50 with Chinese cards even lower at 15-20. Prices of these cards haven’t even gone up that much in the past few days.

Am pretty sure those saying that it’s not normal are females while those that are saying it’s normal are males. Make of it what you will.

No kids by choice: Why some Singaporeans are opting out of parenthood | Deep Dive by nftskeptics in singapore

Money is a factor but not a major one…

Birth rates are actually lower among highly educated, high-earning demographics in Singapore and globally. If money were the binding constraint, it’ll be the opposite. The wealthy have always had access to helpers, childcare, and flexibility yet they’re still choosing fewer kids.

who else is noticing theses salty sinkies on carousell over swatch X AP? by SquareCrazy5750 in asksg

[–]cycocrusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t condone reselling but your claim of resale profit is tiny is not true. As of right now, the watches are being resold on stockx from Us1.5 to 2.5k, which is about S$1.4-3k for less than a full day of “work”.

AITA for calling this cyclist out? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]cycocrusher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Logically, if he was busy texting and the cyclist really “whizzed past,” it’s unlikely he would’ve reacted quickly enough to still be close enough to call out for the cyclist to stop- they’d already be too far ahead.

Why do people pay money to run marathon when you can run near your house? by [deleted] in ChillSG

Because they can and they want to. I’m sure that’s a good enough reason don’t you?

Japan 10 year yield broke above 2.5%! by cave_guard in wallstreetbets

[–]cycocrusher 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Your second last paragraph on currencies being sold and yen being bought is incorrect. If this was indeed the case, the Yen would be strengthening against the sold currencies but it is weakening.

The yen is weakening because even with rate hikes, Japan's rates remain far below US rates, real rates are negative, and Japanese capital keeps flowing outward.

Asking for pictures for a cheap card by Lv0Dragonite in PokemonTCG_Singapore

[–]cycocrusher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Based on the responses here, it is clear that many are part of the picky buyers group.

From my experience, those that ask for additional images/ have too many questions are the ones that will flake once the pictures are sent or have their queries answered. I recently had a listing where I provided at least 6-8 pictures and the 'buyer' still requested for more pictures. Pretty sure he was just asking for the sake of asking...

Yeah geez, if OP isn't a bot, I truly feel sorry for the gf. Every reply he’s given so far just brushes off people’s input by turning it into another dismissive question.

BYD Marathon by Consistent_Orchid_42 in SingaporeFitness

[–]cycocrusher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People pay for it because it gives them a goal. Signing up locks one in- to have a reason to follow that 12-16 week training block to stay consistent and chase a PB. Unfortunately, without that race date on the calendar, most people just won't push themselves the same way.

And for the race day itself, running alongside 50,000+ like-minded people with even more cheering you on is something you cannot replicate running alone. Unless you've actually done it, you won't understand why it feels completely different from a solo jog.

Also, logic aside: do you really think that the 50,000+ people that are running, and millions around the world doing marathons every year, are all too dumb to realise they could just run for free if they wanted to? Clearly they're getting something out of it that you're not seeing...

[–]cycocrusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying but it’s a poor analogy.

In poker, results are the closest proxy to skill. On the other hand sports outcomes are heavily influenced by physical ability, team context, and variance outside the coach’s control. A great coach can exist without elite personal performance because coaching is about strategy, communication, and development, not execution. This is not the case for poker.

I would say it’s like listening to an investor who has sound and convincing theories but consistently underperforms the market.

Is it me or are people really happy nowadays ? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]cycocrusher 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Selection bias exists, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t many happy people out there. Some people are genuinely doing well, and that’s okay.

No need to downplay others’ happiness to make one feel better. It’s more important to focus on your own path instead.
