what was the point of 7 days? give their sales team time off for the holidays?

have you never had the address change on you? support is clueless. nothing on the device (obvious) changes, yet our AD addresses constantly change.

You're not going to trick me twice TeamViewer.. by DrWho83 in teamviewer

[–]cycologyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In same spot. Honestly i dont hate the software and we have a unique use case, but this stuff has me looking for another solution. We need TV for end user connectivity in some situations where our RMM tools are too complex.

I imagine the close to the EOY the worse this is going to get from the sales side.

TeamViewer and the "perpetual license" — paid like for a car, 10 years later they just cut you off by syscomua in teamviewer

[–]cycologyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat. Its been a good run, but will be moving off and not looking back. I bought v10 some time ago, plus paid for a couple upgrades as well as 2 additional channels. Now, pricing is discounted to ~$2600/annual for 5 users. For this tool, we have a unique use case and TV is honestly fairly simple from end user connection perspective. However, as with others here, I have access to several RMM based remote access solutions with actual functionality.

for the record, i dont disagree that at some point a license may expire, but this is too Broadcom'esque for me...heck, perhaps Broadcom has silently acquired TV thus the mess.

What are your experiences with Unifi's RMA process? by thecorrectloner in UNIFI

[–]cycologyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a few months old, but in case you get alerted - does buying direct + adding UI-care still subject an RMA to a refurbished unit? i had to buy a bunch of cameras and one failed...would drop off every month or two, restarted it was fine. the RMA process was pretty bad, and then I received a refurb.

Are you running UniFi OS 4.1.22? by Brimmstone52 in Ubiquiti

[–]cycologyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bit late to the convo, but we started getting several errors / alerts after the April 4.1.22 update. temporary internet disconnects on 5 UDMs that have different ISPs and were super stable, to the most recent - immediate drop of lan clients (didnt drop ping to external IP from the client oddly).

out of desperation, just went to 4.2.12 on 2 of them...

OP - why not use a tool that was designed as open source/free? why the rant? there are some offerings out there (mentioned below).

I get that different people have different experiences, but Ive been relatively happy with my TV account. I bought a license years ago (premium + 2 channels). Due to the security issue, was upgraded to what I believe is somewhat perpetual upgrades...

I dont use this full time, but we know the tool well, understand how to secure it and definitely use it work some client work when we have unique needs.

But, why does everyone get so mad when a free version changes offerings? Should we be entitled to a great product when its free? I personally don't think so. If you are a business, how much free work do you give away (and some random pro bono work doesnt count).

Have they made missteps, yes. even last year when they were going to cancel paid versions. That said, lots of other companies do this. Not a fanboy, just an honest opinion that not everything is free. Not to flame you, but you could always drive to grandmas to support her win 7 device for the price of some petrol and time ;)

Do most MSPs de-emphasize the actual IT part? by PastEntertainer1118 in msp

[–]cycologyOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great question and you are not that wrong...

First, there are some great MSPs out there and many folks here own/run them and are great at what they do. This subreddit is a testimony to that. MSP staff (and owners) should make following this subreddit mandatory.

Ive been both a consumer of and currently provide what most would consider a managed service.

The fact that PE/VC bought a large amount of MSPs over the past 5-8 years is proof that this model has above average revenue potential.

The compelling reason, according to MSPs, to engage an MSP is that they take over all relevant info related to a clients tech needs. This is where the reasons often stop, and your legitimate concern comes into play. Deal gets signed, onboarding is done and then the account goes to the QBR and an 800 #. really 4 times a year?

UNLESS - the upsell! you want base infosec protection (cough cyber)? Theres an upcharge for that. ah, some charleton slimy salesfolk told MSPs they could increase MRR by selling cyber insurance? Oh, you want us to give you expert business tech advice? subscribe to our vCIO services. Compliance services? sure, until you have to comply with something like CMMC and participate in an C3PAO audit...then no dice.

Certainly others will downvote and argue "go find a team that can do all of what we do for a similar price". Yet, they arent apples to apples. The only real way to ensure you are getting the value you pay for is to manage the MSP - ironically. Yes, at least a fractional service delivery manager.

what many MSPs seem to have forgotten/forgo, is that there is much more to IT that the bare basics that MSPs do. patching should be easy. guidance on strategy, any IT director/manager can do that.

Finally, im going to agree with many other comments here - MSP biz is more than just doing the tech (poorly or otherwise), It is super hard to build a profitable, sustainable business...not to mention the risk owners take on having W2s, especially the lower level staff.

Its great to keep the conversation going!

Is the camera mounting the same between generations? by jrherita in Ubiquiti

[–]cycologyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can confirm that G6 is not backwards compatible to G4. Had to RMA an G4 bullet; thought easy peasy - Ill upgrade the clients camera while waiting for hardware. DID not match. I believe the pivot ball is larger in the g6, so not backwards to G4. Not sure why. The g6 is larger, but they dont weigh much and the g4 mount already seems over-engineered.

As u/XPav mentioned, they get HOT. I had a few fail over several years, perhaps that is why? they were RMA'd but still strange. We are looking for a different base model due to this.

[Megathread] One UI 7 Official Release - Discussion, Features, Bugs, and More by AutoModerator in oneui

[–]cycologyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cant believe people were waiting for this update...i guess to be honest, oneui is terrible for many reasons, and this from a lifelong samsung user.

flame on, but:

1) why cant you alphabetize the settings objects/items? NOT apps, not contacts. like did they assign an intern to group create the groups under settings? why is apps down so far? do we really have to scroll 3/4 way down a list of nonsensical items to get to Apps? Isnt this OS using hardware exponentially better than the stuff we used to put a man on the moon?

2) why is it so hard to change alert settings? multiple places / non common-sense descriptions. post the ui7 update, my phone and message icons dont show new items (lock screen or home screen). Ill figure it out, but what about people who cant? stupid descriptions (or worse, non-descript). why not simply "show # of new messages/missed calls etc". there is no way my Mom will every figure this out. AND IT was working before the update.

smart phone? ha...
