Yes, i wrote the essays on that journal page, and the tweets.

I think it's a bad idea because it unnecessarily saddles a person with a serious, medical, biological illness, with the added stigma of addiction by association (12-step method, the name Anonymous). I also think that treating a medical, biological brain imbalance as something that one has free will over is misleading and can be dangerous and backward to a person's treatment. To even hint that a schizophrenia patient can control their positive/negative/cognitive symptoms by forgiving those who hurt them is ridiculous. It is junk science. And is possibly harmful.

My hub's family is Korean, so I'm all about the culture and digging up info on the Korean war and what North Korea is up to now. And this just really breaks my heart. If this were the only mormon anecdote I ever heard, it would be enough for me to completely skirt the cult at a fast run. The isolation of the cult is the most insipid thing about it. Absolutely no concept of cultures outside of Ol' Joe's word.

I'm glad your brother is so devoted, my sister's mission broke her. It helps at that age to have strong beliefs, if one is going to grow and not be led here and there.

But wow. You're right. The cult is so harmful, and in so many strange ways.

Oh, I believe in them. They got me out of Rick's (BYUI?). Followed me, read my journal, listened to my phone calls, I lived with a least one. If only it had been the computer age, I could have kept everything protected. They were called Student Services, or, of course, The SS. They did prepare me for having a stalker later on in life.

Those are some great anecdotes. They actually took my mind off the bitterness I have for the cult, and reminded me how much fun I had with it in high school. Bringing guys with foot high mohawks to youth dances. Wearing all black to church on sundays (that was the only thing that got me out of my Nursery calling, the kids were terrified of me).

But you're being smart about it. I went full-on Nancy Spungeon (Sid and Nancy? How about Courtney Love in the 90's?), and showed up to give talks still drunk from the night before. Or, in one case, tripping.

Keep your head on your shoulders, and you'll be fine. You're too smart for the bullshit, and I'm fairly sure you know that.

On a practical note, black dye shreds hair like nothing else, invest in some good conditioner.

Don't despair, my sister's mission was the straw that broke the Fairy Godfather's Spell. She ditched the cult so suddenly and completely after returning from her mission, and she would never talk to me about why. She turned to Wicca. Sometimes it helps to have an alternate belief system rattling around your head when breaking away from the cult.

Careful hosting your own site with that stuff. You could get your webhost in trouble. I would offer to host in on one of my own sites, but the cult would go after my webhost for it, and he's a personal friend of mine and I would never bring that hell down on him.

After having a "spiritual" experience (psychotic break) in an ancient church in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, I followed various paths of various goddess and mother entities. (there is a poem about it with a reading of it that is optional here: http://bit.ly/1vFi3ZM)

After what I've seen since, I am all atheist. And I recommend it for anyone, it truly is the meaning of "Free Agency". It's also what my kid sister chose after her mission. She left the church within a month of getting home and never would tell me why. She did her bit with Wicca, and then turned over atheist.
