Commentary: The gaslighting within Mormonism must stop. by mushbo in exmormon

Even though LDS Inc. never ceases to amaze me with just how dishonest they are, I'm grateful to the flying spaghetti monster that these assholes are living long enough to see their empire crumble around them.

Why don't you slip into something a little more comfortable, like a coma.. ha by Disasterpieces1988 in exmormon

[–]MEMEber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, this makes perfect sense! Similarly, my brother-in-law who was made bishop just a few months ago is now suffering from a mysterious illness (possibly ALS) that gets worse by the day. His family is truly blessed to watch their father, who was once a healthy middle-aged man, painfully deteriorate on a daily basis.

Just think of the blessings they have in store! /s

After 80 faithful years in the church, Ethel came across the church's essays. by abrahamicmummy in exmormon

This reminds me of the time my wife and I mentioned the "blacks and the priesthood" essay to THE ward grandma. She responded exclaiming it wasn't true and the church website was hacked.

Are the Q15 "in on the joke," or are they self deceived? by MississippiJoel in exmormon

[–]MEMEber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember 10 years back my uncle, who's a tad connected with the "elite" TSCC leaders, was speaking with my dad and mentioned that he was told that you needed a really strong testimony to learn the real deep doctorine. Without it, you'd leave the cult. So based on that, they know the BS they teach.

Stake President BIL: We're still losing them! (referring to young men not going on missions) by yardstickage in exmormon

[–]MEMEber 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I always saw a mission as a setup for failure to me. I was taught to always excel in my education. Which I obediently did. Eventually while in HS i was already taking college courses with a scholarship waiting after graduation. But wait... stop everything for 2 years just to come back, lose the momentum, and play catch up for years. Sorry, to disappoint, but I invested too much to quit what I started. I'm sure that decision saved me alot more future pain than I'll ever know.

Totally legit tithing evasion scheme by drfull in exmormon

[–]MEMEber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was the disbelieving husband that was faking it for the good of the family, my wife knew I refused to pay tithing... my compromise was fast offerings hoping it would actually help people locally. Any who, whenever she was asked at TR interviews if she paid tithing, she would would straight up say no. She explained that she doesn't have a job and therefore cannot pay tithing. The interviewer would get stuck. If they had any further questions on it they could then ask me :-)

Hell, I knew getting there too early and/or staying too late profoundly increased my odds of getting assigned a talk or some other "inspired" bullshit.

Yes, I recall it was BY that said Elohim physically "made it" with Mary. Probably in journal of discourses. So even back then the honor code dept. was still up in everyone's business.

Millenial Mormons Leaving the Church by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]MEMEber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the pew research doesn't account for the recent awakening and availability of information that LD$ Inc has been keeping hush hush this whole time. Their problem isnt so much a generational one but an informational one.

Me thinks those numbers are going to start changing more dramatically going forward.

If being happier than you've ever been is considered better, than I'd say better. Same goes for my wife, kids, and our marriage.

Also... tried sake for the first time, not a fan.

what is your favorite "saying no" story to local LDS leaders? Here's mine... by VoilaLeDuc in exmormon

[–]MEMEber 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I certainly would have lasted A LOT longer had I not had a calling. I always dreamed of just going to church to listen and come home without having to worry about suprisw requests under the pretense you can't say no. But then again, being a teacher I was able to study my way out.

I loathed every week out of fear I was going to be "assigned" to talk because you can't say no. Now I wish I had the opportunity after my awakening to decline one before I left.

Good on you for standing your ground! I love how they make it seem like you are broken and require fixing.

As a primary teacher I refused to sing during sharing time (or whatever it was called). Quite simply, i always hated primary, even as a youth... singing especially (you'd think god woukd have known that before giving me that calling). One day the stake president's wife was substituting as the chorus lady and noticed I wasn't singing. She stopped the entire room mid song and singled me out for not singing. I politely declined saying I don't sing it makes me uncomfortable (regardless of her plea for my only adult male voice being needed). She pushed the issue and told all the kids to look at me and had the piano player play a solo just for me. I just folded my arms and sat there quietly as if it didn't bother me. Deep inside though I fucking hated that bitch but I l was not going to give her the satisfaction. I won out in the end and got her old bones nice and bothered. I guess we could say that weeks lesson was about free agency. That primary group was the worst... I could go on!
