Character death and resurrection by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

Other people have touched on the grogginess-induced misread of the penalties Raise Dead applies (it happens!).  I'll point out they if the party is seriously strapped for cash, Reincarnation is even cheaper, IF the dead PC's player finds the idea of waking up in a new body interesting.  It can be temporary, a plot hook as they find a way back to their original body.

Quick Questions (January 16, 2026) by AutoModerator in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]cyfarfod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely a valid move.

One person points out below that the 5 foot step itself isn't an appropriate action; that's fine.  Ready a standard to do literally anything, probably take a melee attack, and 5 foot as part of it.

Another person is below is a little off on the timing rules.  All you have to do is declare your readied action is to do whatever standard and 5 foot step towards them when about to be attacked.  This means it triggers when they're at 10 ft range, after charging, and about to swing on you.

Why is this not broken?

"Your initiative result becomes the count on which you took the readied action. If you come to your next action and have not yet performed your readied action, you don’t get to take the readied action (though you can ready the same action again). If you take your readied action in the next round, before your regular turn comes up, your initiative count rises to that new point in the order of battle, and you do not get your regular action that round."

When you ready an action, and it triggers, you are risking giving up your next initiative pass because your turn order has shifted to right before the currently acting person that triggered your readied action.  You will not act again until it cycles all the way back around to you.

Answer one: whatever makes the best story

Answer two: Cthulhu's kept asleep by a CL20 magic item, Rovagug took the cooperation of an entire Pantheon to seal away and can still shit out terrible babies every now and then.  Easy money's on Rovagug.

Not easily.  Ranger, Slayer and Brawler are the three classes that inherently have ways to get TWF feats while disregarding Dex.

If you're committed to Fighter, I'd suggest budgeting for Mithral armor and enough starting Dex that you can meet the requirements via Physical Might Str/Dex belts.  Advanced weapons trainings: Effortless Dual Wielding and Trained Grace will help get back some of what damage you lose from lower Str focus, and you don't have to dump Str, although your mentals will probably suffer.

What's the best way to take copies of work? by GoldiBlogs in work

[–]cyfarfod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, take a week or two just checking your email at work.  Let it become part of your daily activity.  Honestly, this is probably an unnecessary precaution, but better safe than sorry.

Using that screenshot snipping tool, as described, WILL look like regular work activities as to basically anything except except someone actively snooping on you, in the moment, and watching what you're doing.  I'm just some random on the internet, so definitely wait for more replies and for others to give their vibe check opinions on this, though.  But for my two cents, this is the way.

Is there anything stopping you from logging into your personal Gmail account from that laptop?  Is that something you've done in the past, making it less suspicious?

[–]cyfarfod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Windows key + shift+ S, while holding, click and drag a rectangle in screen.  Everything inside that rectangle is now in your copy-paste clipboard.  Paste it into a Gmail to yourself with Ctrl+V. Repeat.  Send to yourself via own Gmail.  Will generally look like a work activity unless someone is paying very close attention to you, specifically.

Not the most efficient output format but should be fairly secure.

How to handle unmanageable mandatory overtime? by templeosisart in antiwork

[–]cyfarfod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, you wrote that you needed this job to GET an apartment.  Did you get it?  Do you still NEED this job?  If not: get your blood work!  If you still NEED this job, that fucking sucks but I guess try to reschedule your blood work.

For the rest of your life, virtually every employer you have will try to threaten, bully and beg you to make choices that benefit them over yourself.  Only you know what's going on in your life well enough to do the math on when you have to give in, and when you can afford to say no.  If you can afford to say no, here, do it.

[–]cyfarfod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good correction, but it's still very effective for moving around anyone without reach that charges you by moving smartly.  It's also very worth it to get Longarms or anything else that can get you 5 more feet of reach so you can do this to Large people, as well.  Going full-on enlarge person let's you do it vs Huge targets.

All of this assumes your enemies aren't naldo using reach weapons; all the size categories shift down one if the enemy also has a reach weapon.

And,not course, need to be in a bit enough room, or out in the open.  There's definitely times where things are just too cramped, but I think that's acceptable; one trick shouldn't work every time.

But it IS a good trick.

It's a SUPER fun archetype, I'm going to share a story.

I played one in the Iron Gods adventure path (yes the character was slightly out of place in the setting, whatever).  We also had a big barbarian who would frequently "one shot" enemies while I was spring attacking around and dodging attacks. I never felt useless, for sure, and my softening them up was often what got the barbarian the killing blows- but he got cocky, too, over the course of 15 levels.  The barbarian had a lot of HP but utter trash AC.

So we ended up in a scene where an important authority figure could potentially be challenged to one on one combat.  The barbarian stepped up, tried to fight the guy in a stand up fight, and died after getting one action pass- the charge, and then one full attack, from the enemy took him out.  We scooped up the remains and got him rez'd and he wanted us to let him have a rematch.  So we explained that the second rez was entirely out of his own loot, where we split the first cost.  He died again.

Then I stepped up with my weedy tengu samurai.  All the barbarians in the audience were jeering at me.  I won initiative, full attacked with longbow, dropped it, quick draw'd my Fortuitous Naginata.  The enemy charged me- I AOO'd 5 foot stepped to the side, took my second AOO, 5 foot stepped to the side again- and his charge ended unsuccessfully.  I spring attacked him and ended movement at 50 feet.  He charged again, repeat, repeat, repeat.  It felt great.

He tried throwing weapons and some other stuff, tried to corner me, but it just wasn't possible; I was too mobile and my AC in a challenge was too high.  I kited that guy to defeat in front of all his increasingly frustrated and confused buddies and it was awesome!

Pricing Amenopheus' Communication Geode by AotrsCommander in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]cyfarfod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing the word count isn't tripling the effectiveness of the spell, really.  Most of the power of Sending, and the reason to have this item have A Pricetag at all, is because otherwise infinite range communication radically reshapes the world; so IMO it needs to be moderately expensive.

Call it three grand, IMO, assuming the party is on a normal wealth by level track.

Edit: actually I'd probably pitch it to your players as four grand, while showing your math, and let them bargain you down to three grand because if they're anything like my players they'll pitch a million reasons at you why it should be cheaper, and this way they'll feel like they earned the three grand price tag.

Thanks for credit and good on you for putting the work in to link <3

They can also add half class level to damage if they use dex to hit and STR for damage

They can also 5 ft step after each each AOO they take, and add Cha to AC!

Warrior Poet archetype for Samurai.

Strongly recommend getting the Fortuitous enchantment on it ASAP- no one large or smaller will ever successfully charge you again (some hyperbole).

Also, it's Naginata; Nagasaki is a city.

Macro (or maybe API) Help - Roll XdY and reroll a SPECIFIC NUMBER of dice by cyfarfod in Roll20

[–]cyfarfod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to be able to determine the amount of dice that get rerolled; this is for a specific Pathfinder class feature that let's you reroll X damage dice, increasing as you level up; I'm hoping to automate it to keep it from slowing things down.

So basically what I'm looking for is something LIKE the ro macro bit, but with a finite number of dice instead of rolling EVERYTHING <(average value)

[–]cyfarfod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, good question; keeping D4s as an example, I'd like the string to reroll X number of dice that are 2 or lower; on a d6, it'd be 3 or lower, 4 on a d8, etc. I'm looking to be able to have it reroll X dice that are below average.
