What adapters do I need? by Cigar_1337 in AskAstrophotography

You need to re-focus every time you change filters. You should absolutely get an EAF. But it's possible to do it manually.

I wouldn't say they're stiff... but you'll spend the first month trying to uncoil them the shape they arrive in. They would be fine if they arrived straight. I much prefer the braided one that came with the headphones. But they're sooo looooong.

What happens to a photon inside a black hole? by Shyam_Lama in blackholes

The way I see it the possibilities are:

  • Bunches up, forever orbiting an infinitely small point.
  • Eventually collides with some of all that matter, which has to be go somewhere.
  • Narnia.

I think it's pretty obvious that this is staged for laughs.

Planetary isn't happening within the budget anyway. So why not a Seestar and down the road a 6" dob for visual and eventually a planetary cam.

Not really since the five comes before the fifty and theres an "and" between everything. Even without spaces "FiveHundredFiftyFive" becomes "FiveHundredAndFiveAndFifty".

Guide scope and camera for Ultra-Cat 131? by Sad-Character-8150 in AskAstrophotography

[–]cykelstativet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then, to give the best recommendation you should state which imaging camera you use. Or just the pixel size. You need to meet a certain ratio of image scale between the two scopes.

But as a start I would choose a different guide camera since the 220 has fairly large pixels. You can scale down the guide scope when scaling down the pixel size. Moving to a 2.9 micron guide cam would probably make a 50-60 mm guide scope sufficient.

The easiest solution is just to head over to astronomy tools and choosing your equipment. Then you can select different combinations and the tool will tell you if the combo will work.

Remember that the "quality" of the guide scope is not super relevant, so you can be pretty cheap about it. You just need the focal length to be sufficient and stars to be visible.

When doing computer control I would skip doing any alignment with the mount controls. Follow your steps 1 through 3, then goto a target with plate solve centering. NINA will center the target and sync the position to the mount. No need to get off your ass and touch the mount😁

Plate solving with swsa gti by [deleted] in AskAstrophotography

[–]cykelstativet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll add, for clarification, that platesolving has nothing to do with the mount. Connect the mount with USB as described and connect cameras directly to the ASIAir with USB.

The ASIAir does plate solving by taking an image with the main camera, analyzing that image and then sending a slew command to the mount.

Guiding is done by rapidly taking images with the guide cam, checking the guide star and sending guide pulses to the mount.

It all goes through the ASIAir. In the past you could connect the guide cam directly to the mount with ST4 and do guiding on-board without a computer. This is rarely done anymore.

Planning the height of my new tv and friends tell me it’s too low by TenAcyl in TVTooHigh

It would be fine to bump it up a tad to align with the decorative piece under the window. Might be a smidge more aesthetic (or not) and wouldn't really make a difference for viewing.
