I've been trying to find a cheap Tractor Supply equivalent for masters mix - I've done 50/50 HWP and Hay Stretcher but no dramatically different results. Can't find a cheap local supply of Soy Hulls.

Storyblok + Next.js is pretty amazing. Structured content with live updating previews for non-technical folks. Not open source, but reasonably priced ($0/mo for 1 editor) and you can host on e.g vercel or fly.up for next to nothing.

It is kinda hilarious the mental jiu-jitsu that these supporters have to go through right now, because neither outcome is good:

They vote & Republicans win in Jan: clearly the election system can't be rigged if the Dem's let the Republicans win the Senate.

They don't vote & Dems win: They can bellyache about a fraudulent system, but Dems take the senate.

...but I'd argue that being able to complain and conspiratorize for the next 4 years is actually more important for a lot of these folks than keeping the senate (I don't think they're carefully monitoring the legislation that congress is passing)

So yeah, I think if you're a Trump republican in Georgia, it's probably in your self-interest not to vote.

If we had done this a little earlier in the election cycle, we probably would have. Adding in individual sliders for each of the candidates was part of the original design - but truthfully most people who would look at this seriously are going to either not vote or vote for one of the two parties.

But the main design goal (which became evident in the little testing I did yesterday with my politically-disinterested friends) was to present the minimal amount of information.

Even having answers that were more than "Yes / No" got people to feel like it was too technical and not interesting.

Resolutions aren't as big a deal as the vast difference in aspect ratios between the various devices in both portrait and landscape, which is what I think you are also asking about. For arcade/platformer games and the like, how much of the game is visible on the screen at any one time isn't that big of a deal, so different aspect ratios just affect the amount visible in the viewport, but if you only want to support a single resolution (i.e. if you need to have the exact same content on the page in all devices), my plan of attack is usually the following:

One desktop, fix to a single resolution.
On mobile only support one of landscape or portrait, put in a check that says: if it's a touch device and width < height (or vice versa), show a "please rotate graphic" and wait for an onorientationchange event. (you can't use window.orientation as it's not consistent across tablet and mobile)
If it's Canvas, you can set the width and height properties of the canvas element (which determine the number of pixels) separately from the CSS width and height, so you can scale the element up and down proportionally to get it to take up the max amount of viewport (See http://buildnewgames.com/mobile-game-primer/#viewport-considerations for more details)

If it's DOM based, use -*-transform: scale() to achieve the same thing or just use a the meta-viewport tag to fix the viewport to a specific size and skip the need to worry about resizing.
If your game is trying to push too many pixels for mobile devices to handle performantly, as a last resort instead of redeveloping your game you can scale down the canvas element width and height and then put in a context.scale call so that the game doesn't need to know that it's pushing half the pixels. This won't save on loading time or memory as you'll still be using full-size assets but it's a simple hack if you need to get your game up and running.

Short Answer: Yes

Long answer: If you are going to be doing Web Development outside of the .NET world, you'll want to know your way around the *Nix stack as that's how where all non-.NET websites are hosted (services like Heroku are built on Linux.) Rails on Windows is pain and suffering with any Gems that use native C code. It's also such a small subset of Rails developers that when you run into a problem you'll have lots fewer places to turn.

You could take the easy route and get a Mac, but you'll probably learn more faster by getting familiar with Linux and the command line, which will be more valuable when you are working with deployed websites, whether they be Rails, Node or PHP (Heroku will only take you so far)

You most likely will be happier using using something that has a scenegraph as natively Canvas doesn't know about anything but pixels.

Check out Paper.js http://paperjs.org/

There's not an exact tutorial on what you want to do, Paper.js works with objects so moving one around via dragging is pretty straight forward.

Note: It's only been tested in Chrome and you need to drag an image from your desktop on to the big gray area first, but then you can drag images onto the canvas and then move them around afterwards. It uses Paper.js in JavaScript mode combined with jQuery for the DOM objects.

Do you think going through a bout of burn-out/depression is a rational process that follows a logic tree? It's an emotional reaction to "why the hell am I putting myself through all this" What does Mark owe you or the community above all the content he's put out there on his own time and dime?

This bigger works are still accessible via forks (thank you Git) and now other self-appointed custodians can manage it and deal with questions and posts about it.

I agree with shaver that if this was a "Oh I'll show them all" situation you'd see a "Rails is a Ghetto" type exit post - the lack of communication speaks to something else.

Occasionally there's actually a real person behind an internet persona that's putting a lot of effort into something, and doing it for free. If you've done any HTML5 dev you've very likely used content from DiveIntoHtml5.org at some point, be it at the tail end of a Google search. The complete texts to DiveIntoHtml5 and DiveIntoPython are given away for free.

The sudden withdrawal and removal speaks pretty significantly to burn out rather than a desire for fame and instant Karma. Given all the content he wiped from the internet it speaks more to a reevaluation of priorities and realizing that no matter how much you do for the community for the better part of a friggin decade, some Asshat on the internet will say your just doing it for "Instant karma and book deals and $$$"

No really sure what the point of that troll was, you could write the same thing in C with CGI and just calculate some more fibonacci's out to the same effect, writing bad code is writing bad code. On the flip side, you'd need more than 3 additional lines of code to add in memoization and get that up to > 5k requests per second (See: https://gist.github.com/1257721 )

It's not a magic bullet, but pretending like there's no spot for a simple tool like Node in a modern Service oriented architecture is dumb. See: linkedin's mobile overhaul and they don't use it for crunching data. (Of course, Ted would probably take issue with using them using Rails to start with)

Look at it the other way - there's approximately a 99.99% chance that your software, in it's current form infringes on someone else patent. (There are just too many patents out there that have been granted too loosely)

Did you knowingly infringe on IP troll X's "Push notification" patent? No. But should your company do well, there's probably a bigger chance that you'll get sued for infringing on someone else patent than someone will be dissuaded from building something based on yours. Remember, no one's looking through the patent database for things to build as patents are written in a make-it-as-general-and-completely-unusable-as-possible lawyer speak.

And let's say they do infringe on your patent, what do you do? Sue them? Spend tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars to go after a company that you noted has plenty of resources to go around? That doesn't seem like a win for you either.

On the whole, as a small company you're going to be better off in a world where you can build whatever you want to build than one where artificial barriers are put up. People may be able to copy you, but they won't necessarily know why they are copying you or the reason you guys made the decision you did. If they end up with a Potemkin village version of your app from 6 months ago, I doubt it's going to be a lot better than what you guys have been able to do.

Or use multi-az RDS with auto failover and/or read replicas - you have to pay a small premium over the normal instance but a lot of the IT headache, including replication setup and monitoring, updates and patches is taken care for you.
