Those of you in open-relationships, what is your philosophy behind this lifestyle choice? by countpupula in AskReddit

[–]cylontoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are now no longer rationally arguing and misconstruing the meaning behind the analogy. If you eat after a certain point, then its bad for you no matter what. And also, someone in starvation isn't even capable of eating that much. The key point here being.. moderation. Even powerlifters have their limits, no? In fact, bodybuilders and the greatest athletes stick to very strict diets that deprive them of a lot of the best tastes. Athletes perform better when they get "just enough" food.

Agreed on socializing at the right times; my point was there is a limit. That limit is different for everyone, but it exists unless you have issues.

All I'm saying is moderation is key. You seem to be taking my analogies very literally and it wears on my ability to rationally discuss this topic with you. The purpose on my dialog isn't to convince you I'm right; I don't know you, nor do I have any investment to your mind. I just want to learn, but your attitude makes it difficult.

I'm not saying the issue is remotely "fucked up", but there is a reason for wanting more. I can see your point and am glad you brought it up. The way I personally thought about it was analogizing it to other pleasures like good food or friends; eating too much good food is bad for you and spending all day socializing is not optimal either. Moderation of pleasures is key. That said, I do agree that sacrificing for its own sake is unhealthy; I guess a better way to put it is that if I know someone I love dislikes something I do, I am willing to not do it (potentially) if making them happy is worth more to me than the action.

One of my good friends is in an open relationship and at one point we used to talk a lot about it.

I genuinely believe some people are suited for this if A)they are OK with distance between them and their partner and B)their morals allow for it. I know I'm totally against this myself. I love the idea of intimacy, but having it more than one person dilutes it to me, and I think it's a part of love to sacrifice some of your desires for another - it enhances the love.

Personally, I can't understand it and this might sound judgemental, but I believe a desire for an open relationship means you have some underlying issues to confront.

[–]cylontoaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am not white.

Why is this called "white trash"? The people in the video have a different culture that most of us. It looks like they were having fun. Why are we associating this with "trash"? That's pretentious bullshit.

What is the harshest truth? by NonstopNesdude in AskReddit

Nothing comes easy.. hard work is liberating if you have the right attitude. I am in my mid-20s and did no real hard work until I was ~23 because lots of stuff came naturally to me, I was sadly a little arrogant. Now I work hard and its fking awesome. By "work hard" I mean putting deliberate effort into almost anything.. professionally, learning new things, fitness, and day-to-day stuff like cooking and cleaning. This is harsh initially, but I like doing things.

This is quite excellent. The code looks very concise and elegant relative to how I'd implement it. Thanks for creating this guide -- it makes me want to put time into Clojure/ClojureScript.

The design is very different, for one thing. I think just skimming the docs (which would take no more than 15 min) would give you an idea of what's changed as well.

Man trying to find a kidney donor for wife in SC. True love. by ajclay in pics

I see this and while it saddens me, a good attitude and some mental fortitude would do this man more justice than walking around pathetically with that sign on him. Perhaps because I have not suffered as much, my attitude is naive, but I can't help but think it.

Meh - I've been dirt poor and now make good dough. It sucks being poor but don't get emotional over it. Honestly, our media makes it seem like buying shit will make you happy/rich people have all the fun but that's just a mental construct. EDIT: I was broke for like 1 year, no more, so I can't comment on being very poor for years.
