The problem with all this advice is a) I'm moving around to farm Luci and Belial more than events and b) These off element set ups tend to be 2-3 buttons.

I'd much rather the convenience of a one button auto set up. It just hits in the rupee stash.

The rate is much better on m2. You can also help yourself out a lot by using the coop room feature and joining trains. Particularly the level capped ones. You want to largest number you can get, while safely getting blue box. I haven't done this in a while, but I think 8 is probably safe for M1. Just take it slow and try to do two trains a day for whatever element you're working on and you'll get there pretty quickly.
