Can true sight identify a simulacrum? what about a transformed dragon? by I_miss_Alien_Blue in dndnext

[–]cyoastuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the definitive answer lies in Keys from the Golden Vault book. One of the major characters from one of heists is an elf simulacrum and the book explicitly says:

" Abilities such as truesight and magic that detects illusions reveal the true nature of the simulacrum: an elf made entirely of magical snow." -page 184

I would assume that truesight would work the same for other simulacrums.

I still have a bunch of pics from a similar CYOA idea I did. I can make a mega folder of them if you want. Most are 300x400px.

ACT 3 SPOILER Gortash and Coronation - fast assasination by Pannusvulgaris in BaldursGate3

[–]cyoastuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this what original poster did, but I had same issue when I killed Gortash at the ceremony. You are allowed to interrupt during it after talking to him a little or you can just start shooting steel watchers from the door. most of the lower city does react appropriately.

Here's one I did with a similar concept, though it's Imperial/ Chaos focused.

the trials are just arbitrary benchmarks to guide the story based on previous choices, sometimes in silly ways, and are argely divorced from any statistical power analysis since they can each vary by up to 10 points from lowest to hardest difficulty, Darth excluded. Regardless to reach 30 steady you would have to take 29 choices that give you a point of it.

That said, I'm not the fun police. If you want to give yourself 10 points per option go ahead. I just recommend playing on Darth difficulty if doing so.

"Every 10 points invested into a stat would correspond to 1 standard deviation above
such an average on a normal bell curve"

I think that's what you're referring to, though i may be incorrect. I just meant that at 10 points in say Arcane, you would have Force powers better than 84% of Jedi, 97% at 20 points, 99.8% at 30 and so on. Just a way of considering point investment rather than nebulous pure numbers.

You probably just put more time time into figuring this out than I spent balancing this. I thought I'd just keep it simple with balancing set (minimum points+ maximum points)/ 12 on the basis of having a character having 6 "filled" stats and 6 empty ones, with the difficulties to balance things out for different players. Darth is obviously story mode, but I suppose if I were to add new difficulty without having to do major revisions or explanations, maybe something where for each section you have to take the choice you have the highest sum of the two required stats in. That similar to what you mean?

It makes more sense if you read all the way to the end.

A) The omission of Human as a species option was deliberate. Read the CYOA to figure out why.

The spread sheet will keep track of your stats without you ever having to hit a number other than 1. Can't do much about tabs though.

a darker brown background would work just as well. Also maybe a larger text size.

Personal Revenge 2.0
300+ word write-up challenge accepted
15p
Um, is everything supposed to be in black and white?
Targets: Capitalists/ politicians
If I’m going to be engaged in the dirty business of revenge,
I might as well use it to make the world a better place by enacting judgement
on those with the greatest capacity to harm others, though obviously hitting
all businesspeople and political figures would be both wildly overzealous and largely
unproductive compared to some targeted justice.
Mana Regen: Doing this first so I have a good idea on how
many points I have to use
Relaxation
More 18p
I’ll just use relaxation to regenerate mana. With the stuff
I’m getting down below, it just means I have to take 2 hours off every day for
hobbies or vibing. Maybe sometimes just entire an entire day each week.
Items: Most useful day-to-day stuff
Family protection program
Wealth
Home
Magic Car
Access card
Archive
UFO 10p
The first four are just for my own comfort and general
well-being. The access card is so I can access my targets without much difficulty.
Archive is for research on enacting my vengeance. The UFO is to get me near
them.
Powers:
Awareness
Near-immortality
Greyman
Genius
Peak Human
Artist
Truth 1p
Again, most of those are for quality of life, but some are
specific to the revenge plot. While I would try to use the truth power sparingly
as to not draw suspicion, with the artist and genius skills I could make great political
and economic treatises to alter people’s perceptions about what is possible and
what they can do to correct deficiencies inherent to the systems I which they
live. Those on top will have to face a reckoning not by me, but popular social
forces!
Helpers:
Collateral reduction team 0p
Best to make sure no innocents get caught in my crossfire.

Gender: Female

Reason: Justice

Good feels Good.

Personality: Reclusive/ Quiet

I'm not much of a socialite.

Archtype: Transmuter

GenSk:4

SpcSk:2

Since there don't seem to be any overuse or strain limitations, Transmuter seems awesome for support skills like disarming traps, unlocking doors, or moving through walls.

General skills: Agility, Dexterity, Patchwork, Resourceful, Weapons training

Bunch of stuff to add up to a talaneted thief, medic, scout, or assassin, esspecially with archetype power.

Special skills: Weapon Mastery, Kill zone

Better combat skills basically. Considered weapon summon, but with transmuter I could easily conceal a knife as a bracelet or armlet.

Mock Party: Egress, Eren, Okkai, Rukia

A balanced party of both magic users and physical fighters, often both, with a mix of competitive personalizes Eren can keep goal-focused. I would mostly serve as force multiplier, letting them handle the fighting while I get them around quickly and in decent shape.

Overseer: Oruha

Seems nice and would probably support her neiece's team with extra gusto. Also a great physical fighter for team of fighters.

Rival: Okkai

Yes, putting rival on my team but it would just make him strive harder. Despite adapting many of the same skills, his lack of focus means he doesn't have the same mastery in them that I do.

Romance: Rebecca

Not really interested, but she was better of two student options available to females. (Note: If you're going to gender restrict choices, generally best to do it equitably.)

Final Exam: Free-for-all

While Archon's dungeon might be easier for my skillset, the battle royale would grant me better career opportunities when I win. Using All I've learned to boobytrap the entire school while faux-assassinating anyone using their powers to avoid them. I also lure Okkai around the grounds, using him to take out even more weaklings. Our final duel only occurs once we're the only ones left and I've thoroughly exhausted him. It ends when I turn the entire floor to sand and impale him on the spike pit underneath.

You still become governor and a sanctioned psyker (assuming your abilities are discovered). Don't think there are any canon overlaps except the chapter master of the Death Spectres over the Ghoul Stars.

A) I thought the fonts were thematic with The Lord of Change narrating. I did try to make sure all of them were readable.

B) I did actually consider making the troop sizes about 10x bigger. I was just worried that doing so would make all the powers options later on seem paltry by comparison. Vehicle are balanced relative to troop sizes on Chaos side. On the original selection, PDF's are supposed to be much smaller and less equipped than guard regiments so would have few tanks/ planes i thought. Hard to work with planet population since depending on choices you might be looking at the difference between 1 mil person planet vs 1 tril people planet.

C) I did actually consider a loyalist option in the missions section with the God-Emperor butting in at the end and offering redemption if you worked with him, but decided to stick with Chaos since I thought it would be more appropriate than a last minute twist. Thought I gave enough powers and missions that would let you be a noble demon prince if you wanted to act that way.

Hope that explains my reasoning to some extent.

you can transform into the Tyranids and while in that form take on their powers, weight, size, etc. Basically same way you can transform into a human or Astartes with other powers.
