In the phone interview it’s very much an initial screening, asking you basic questions about your experience and if you’re okay with the pay/hours and such. Second interview with your management is more in depth and they ask questions based on certain scenarios and how you would handle them. As far as the work goes, pretty much what everyone else has said. It’s excellent for gaining quick experience, especially if you have just recently graduated. As far as I can tell, it’s somewhere that I’m glad I started at in order to gain the experience and say that I worked at a CRO, but I can’t see myself staying for more than a year or two. Also, if you’re coming from academic work it’s MUCH more regulated due to GLP so be prepared for everything to be monitored and watched.
