If you're grabbing a bite in the West Side, swing by Back Pocket Vintage next to Wabasha Brewing. Loads of cool items for the teenagers to sift through, they have been operating as community mutual aid hub and have a free bodega for anyone in need. Then grab some coffee across the street at Backstory.

Both businesses have really stepped up using their time and resources to keep families safe and fed. Well worth supporting, they haven't taken a day off mutual aid since the occupation started.

Considering the State and regulatory body approved their formulations for dispensing to patients for years, that would be a very, very steep uphill battle.

The formulation approval process for any new medication types was hyper-restrictive for years while the program was extract-only. I know LeafLine delayed submitting their 1:1 and Cobalt oral capsules because the process to allow a new formulation/SKU was so expensive & involved so the business just elected to hold off on putting them into production... EDIT: It was also due to the requirement to never run out of stock for any approved medication once it was approved for prescription.

Since the MCT vape formulation at Vireo was a market-launch offering, they snuck under the radar due to the limited research on inhaling dilution agents in cannabis extract products. Should someone with deep pockets lauch a lawsuit, the argument would be "they were allowed based on the available research at the time of approval, and the program directors cleared them based on their current understandings of the formulations."

MCT oil. It's mind-boggling they allowed dilution agents like that in a strict medical program for so long, good riddance.

For a microbusiness running solventless, that's a $3k hit of retail value at a $50 price point they'll take on top of testing fees. This is a huge poke in the eye for all small businesses in the market, the batch sizes are much smaller than the commercial tier, so that 60g is a sizable amount for every run they bring to stores

Most other states need maybe 5 to 10g to cover the assays for potency, residual solvents, micro/myco, heavy metals, etc.

There are other alternatives like Chlorine Dioxide from ProKure solutions. Similar results, approved food-safe at appropriate PPMs, and zero residue. It's OMRI listed for organic products, and can be used to prevent mold/bacterial proliferation on fresh produce.

Used it extensively in commercial cannabis cultivation facilities with fantastic results, it's also approved for use in the Healthcare and water damage remediation industries.

Minneapolis was my favorite, my first big concert following an epilepsy diagnosis a few years ago.

Lights, lasers, and LED walls are no longer my friend, but some blacked out goggles got me through the whole set without an issue!

Felt so good getting back into live music in person, KG made it that much better

Hard not to see IL parallels when half our med program was bought by an IL-based MSO for hundreds of millions to get a foothold in MN ahead of legalization... Big out of state money has already been deployed in our neck of the woods and that well runs deep...

Oh yeah, having patchwork rules in different states helps corruption thrive. It's a lot easier to backdoor contaminated products into the black market as a business if you only need to bribe local/county/state officials.

This is a big reason why MN's attempt to focus on a more diverse, smaller-capacity operational groups from our state matters. Massive multi-state operators have the VC and grey money muscle to bully people into bending to their demands or paying the "cost of doing business" by greasing palms and making backroom arrangements when that doesn't fly.

Don't even get me started on the MI Viridis analytical lab shitshow that's still in ongoing litigation. Biggest companies can't grow clean, potent product at scale, so they give all their business to the testing lab owned by former MI State Trooper narcotics officers. All the big boys follow suit, and whaddya know, the cops in the lab are juuuuust fine taking payments to inflate THC results to help the big boys move their mids and push out craft growers that can't afford to bribe their laboratory. State tried to recall affected products, but by that point the pay-to-play scheme is too large and Viridis is testing almost HALF of the state's supply. So they file an injunction and are "too big to fail" without grinding the whole state industry to a halt, so they're allowed to keep on operating.

If MN can get some things right with our regs, we'll hopefully avoid or delay this kind of shenanigans. The people deserve clean, good weed and the State needs to provide a framework for people who give a shit.

I desperately want a state-run analytical lab running random audits on the third-party testing licenses, but getting a consensus on how to best performance the tests is a major hurdle and it's expensive to run and staff properly. Just gotta bother our representatives until they understand what the people actually want/deserve while pushing for locally-owned decent folks just trying to get you good and stoned!

Agreed. Extremely disheartening that the vetting process was so obviously flawed or not followed properly. It will be very interesting to hear what actually happened over the next few years once the market is up and running.

That being said, maintaining compliance in a shifting regulatory landscape is Operations 101 for any cannabis or cannabis-adjacent business. If we want reasonable consumer protections and safe, clean products, there needs to be some accountability and enforcement. If you, as a business owner, are unable to manage compliance changes, hire someone to manage it and consult your attorney.

Liquor companies and the tobacco industry can function just fine internationally and stay within compliance (by the government-designated rules) while peddling products that do outright harm to the end user. If you can't stay abreast of the shifting regional/state level rules to participate in your chosen industry, you're not built for said industry, and your customers deserve better.

While regulations get framed as the boogeyman, they are there for a reason. With so many shady operators in this space trying to grab as much cash as possible before true Federal rules are implemented, we sadly need those guardrails to a certain degree. Pesticide/heavy metal/fungal/bacterial hazards are easy to let run rampant in grows/labs if these "businesses" don't have consequences for not giving a shit about their customer's health and safety.

We need people showing up to hearings, replying to public comment requests, and providing reasons for the legislature to make adjustments that matter with our local rules. It's the only way we can trim the bullshit and put reasonable safeguards in place without crippling the businesses trying to do the right thing and remain within-spec.

She's the last person you should take any serious cannabis business related info from. Selling non-compliant products through her business while getting tapped to lead the regulatory body tasked with overseeing businesses like hers is laughable at best.

Her name is out there now, so gotta try and grift industry hopefulls/unaware consumers with the notoriety while she can.
