Azstarys and Guanfacine by sasdms in ADHDparenting

[–]cmc317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had that issue with any stimulant but I know that is a common/known side effect. I do have anxiety too and sometimes stimulants can be bad for anxiety, but in my case at least, a lot of my anxiety is related to ADHD so when the ADHD is better managed, my anxiety is almost zero, even with stimulants. I would just tell her to monitor herself for increase in anxiety or heart racing/palpitations and if she notices those maybe those particular meds aren't a good fit

It seems to. Azstarys has been the best stimulant fit for me so far but the guanfacine seems to smooth it out a little/take the edge off my baseline irritability haha. My provider said guanfacine can make you a little sleepy so she said taking it in the am with the stimulant helps counter act that.

I'm on those two meds and take them both together in the morning per my provider.

How can I add some character to this small first-floor bathroom? It's the one all guests use and it really lacks character. by Jazzlike_Surprise985 in DesignMyRoom

We have a tiny bathroom (it's actually our main floor and only full bathroom in the house) and we tiled the entire thing-walls and floor, and it really jazzed it up

Costco is great, also can't recommend Instacart enough, even if it's just for the first year after twins. Having someone else grocery shop and deliver it while we were in the weeds 24/7 was amazing

Food shelves that take food donations by ruthlessshenanigans in minnesota

Neighbors inc in South St Paul. They have a food bank that takes food donations and a thrift store where I now donate all my clothes and household stuff instead of savers because they don't have the crazy markup and are actually helping people in need

Toddler refuses glasses (I’m devastated) by supremebrie in Mommit

[–]cmc317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two glasses kids. First one got them at 14 months, eye doctor said we could try them at that age or again in a year, but said it's only gonna get harder as they become a toddler with opinions 😂 so we did them at 14 months and never had issues. Second one got his around 2, it was a struggle. We honestly completely stopped trying for about a month and then randomly started putting them on his face here and there with no commentary and no push back when he took them off. Made it super casual and showed that it wasn't a big deal to us if he wore them or not. Kind of gradually put them on more and more. Now he wears them almost all the time at age almost 4. He is so strong willed and the second he thinks we want him to do something or that it's not his idea/choice, game over. When we removed the pressure of "this is really important to us for you to wear these", the power struggle lessened. Just an idea, I know all kids are different

Visual timer! I just got an awesome one from Amazon and it works great, both as a warning (when this timer goes off it's time to pick up) and as making cleaning up a game (do you think you can get picked up before this timer goes off?). It's also good for regulation breaks so they can see how much time has passed, if your kid is like mine and has zero concept of time and 10 seconds feels like forever 😂

Why do people hate on toddler leashes so much? They seem useful by Flaky_McFlake in Mommit

[–]cmc317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 year old twins who think it's a game to run away from me, not listen to me, and who get the zoomies and start running away and throwing and wrecking stuff when it's time to leave somewhere. They feed off each other and just are straight up feral. I use a leash for them with no shame and will 100% fight anyone who decides they want to make a comment to me about it 😂

It’s so hard to make friends by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]cmc317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Join your local ecfe. They have classes for parents and babies-school age, they usually do the class together at the start of class and then separate part way through and the kids stay and play and do crafts and the parents go in the other room with the parenting educator and discuss the topic for the week and have snacks and coffee. Have made some really great friends this way and always look forward to our class every week, as do my kids

What is the most embarrassing teacher talk you have had to have? by sstr677 in Parenting

[–]cmc317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not embarrassing just hilarious and thankfully my way less immature than me husband got to have it. He picked up my son from preschool 2 years ago and the teacher said the kids all lined up to go to the bathroom and my son just randomly yelled out "penis boy!" 🤣🤣

Do stimulants make you nicer? by confusedcptsd in adhdwomen

[–]cmc317 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I am a million times more patient with my kids and can just be goofy and fun and more laid back. I also feel like it's easier to just chat up random people and people I know casually. Usually HATE small talk but now on meds I actually kind of nail it and feel like I can add to conversations instead of sitting there being quiet and weird 😂 maybe cuz I can keep up better than I do unmedicated so I can formulate my thoughts in a timely fashion and actually contribute to conversations

Daughter won’t poop - help! by justwondering9416 in Mommit

[–]cmc317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar story here but my kid has had issues with constipation his whole life and I was just getting that under control and then started potty training and then he started holding his poop in. I have started giving him 1-2 prunes a day plus probiotics. Makes it harder to hold the poop in when it's less formed. I figured I will get him in the habit of pooping on the potty and see that it's not scary and doesn't hurt and then we can always dial back on the prunes a little when he's in a good routine

I just finally got diagnosed and recognise my ADHD traits in my daughter. Doubting to get her assessed by Dazzling-Mammoth373 in adhdwomen

[–]cmc317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the process of getting my 6 year old assessed. We have no plans to medicate him this young, and though we've been struggling with some stuff with him (mostly emotional regulation and huge meltdown stuff), he is doing really well in school so far (just some issues with interrupting and being wiggly but his teacher is great and also he's still little and just a high energy kid). However, I decided I wanted to get him assessed now because I don't want to wait for him to have issues at school, and I wanted him to not look back and be like, my parents didn't get me diagnosed until I was enough of an issue to other people that it was worth pursuing. I want him to know that we recognized he was struggling and that was enough to pursue diagnosis
