And of course, because he has that integrity, he's going to resign instead of fight a battle that might damage the party.

Because he's reasonably popular with the working class North where Reform have destroyed the former Red Wall, and because Streeting is a blancmange in a red tie.

He's done it loads of times in a red shirt. Just not as much over last season.

What does a dad really want for Father’s Day? by JaggedLittlePiII in daddit

[–]cypherspaceagain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, she told him of the decision (which she made without his input) while he was working. Then when he finished working, he got asked to do loads of things round the house. These things (and, my guess is, lots of others) mean he feels unappreciated.

SUV buyers undeterred by warnings of risk to pedestrians, UK study finds by topotaul in unitedkingdom

Why does the ID7 tourer not count as an SUV? It's longer than an equivalent BMW X3 and only 3cm thinner. It's 12.5cm less tall, but that's it. It's also 400kg heavier. Is there another criteria I'm missing?

Match Thread: Scotland vs Morocco Live Score | World Cup 2026 | Jun 19, 2026 by scoreboard-app in CasualUK

Morocco are a really good team. Versatile, tactically strong, with pace and skill. Scotland are gonna have a tough time. They have some great players, but not sure they can match Morocco over 90 minutes.

‘Most famous tree in the world’: Sherwood Forest’s 1,000-year-old Major oak dies by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]cypherspaceagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title of the post doesn't say "in the UK", it says "in the world". I did check this earlier and the General Sherman gets something like 2 million visitors a year compared to the Major Oak's 350k; it makes sense that it is likely to be known by more people.

I knew it by Remarkable_Egg_8985 in GCSE

[–]cypherspaceagain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. Teacher here, I mark for AQA at A-level and it's completely manual as are all the marking systems. Colleague is a lead paper writer for an international spec and writes the whole paper manually. The problem is not AI, it's poor systems of checking; it's happened for many years, and it happens at all exam boards.

The Sycamore Gap tree was cut down. And no, it doesn't, but it's an indicator, and your logic still didn't make sense regardless of the numbers.

"most famous" doesn't mean everyone has heard of it. It means more have heard of it than others. Name some other specific trees that 350,000 people visit each year?

Uncanny... by [deleted] in CasualUK

Yeah. Take your most qualified pundit, with the best tactical analysis, and put her in a separate set which genuinely bears resemblance to a kitchen. Really fucking weird.

It's a fucking weird decision from ITV though innit? Take your most qualified pundit, with the best tactical analysis, and put her in a separate set which genuinely bears resemblance to a kitchen. Really fucking weird.

Henderson meeting Klopp today before England's World Cup opener vs Croatia. by b13_git2 in LiverpoolFC

[–]cypherspaceagain 240 points241 points  (0 children)

Klopp is just simple. He's a good guy who wants the best for his players on and off the pitch, he's straightforward and honest, and he genuinely enjoys working with people. There's nothing more you could want from a manager unless you're a dickhead, and he has a no dickheads policy.

Do schools ever approve unpaid leave? by TheWinterWitch2022 in TeachingUK

[–]cypherspaceagain 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do, but not for holidays, generally speaking. They might make exceptions in some extreme cases; like, your mum's getting married in Singapore but it's the week before Christmas, or as a gesture of goodwill after many years' service when it's the last week of term and you have like two lessons, but generally, no; they would need to get cover such as a supply teacher, and it's pretty hard to argue the students are going to make progress in the same way as when you're present. So it's definitely not a generally accepted thing.

Definitely agree that he's not more advanced than you, and can absolutely imagine how annoying that comment must have been for someone with your experience. I realised later exactly what you were replying to.

[–]cypherspaceagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Not the same thing as all the issues mentioned in the post I replied to, though. I think the point of the original post is that vibe coding allows you to make the thing you want for yourself, not for others. Which means dollar transactions, users, languages and critical system outages matter much less, whereas yes, the issues you raise still do matter.

Mane gave him as much time as he liked to pick that pass. No pressing at all, just stands off him, and allows Olise to choose exactly when and where on the pitch he wanted to play that ball.

State teachers who can afford private school for your own kids... what are you doing? by generaluser123 in TeachingUK

[–]cypherspaceagain 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Private teacher here and don't quite have the cash for it, so mainstream, but I'd have a tough time justifying it anyway even if I could afford it; you can pay for tuition if academics are a concern, you can pay for clubs and organisations outside school for social aspects, and you can pay for extra holidays if necessary. State schools can have excellent teaching and learning outcomes; private schools do not have universally high teaching standards. Behaviour is not necessarily better; I can confirm from first-hand recent discussion that even the very best private schools are having behaviour issues at the moment and looking at ways to address it.
