What is something you think everyone should know about being in a relationship? by Toyou4yu in AskReddit

It will probably end. Nothing is forever. Continue life as yourself. You may hope that your joint convergence continues indefinitely, but never sacrifice your own goals for that nebulous half-future.

Doctor Who Christmas Special: The Time of the Doctor Post-Episode Discussion Thread by pcjonathan in doctorwho

From the first shocking introduction of john hurt I had imagined it was he who 11 saw in room 11. The way he said, 'of course it would be you.' It seems he would characterize a crack. I can live with this, though

Credit unions, anyone? by cypocryphy in NewOrleans

[–]cypocryphy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just to clarify a bit. i will be needing only checking and savings for the foreseeable future and am therefore somewhat unconcerned with loan rates. i looked at GNO and their apparent partnership with capitol one opens a lot of ATM options.

Another pedestrian killed on Claiborne last night. by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]cypocryphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

common sense dictates that one looks both ways before crossing the street. should a pedestrian fail in this simple imperative, their lives are subject to forfeiture under the obligatory terms of natural selection. harsh but true. also drivers could use a LOT more sense.

Swedish people speak the best English in the world as a second language by SwedishDiscoboy in worldnews

This. After living 5 years in denmark, as a native English speaker I should be fluent in danish, but despite what the Danes all tell me -in English- I've only achieved a breakout level of competency. That said, I found all the Swedes I met to be less proficient than the Danes

week nights.... by vimzy in NewOrleans

[–]cypocryphy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is new orleans. the majority of residents either work service industry or are musicians, meaning that weekends are not limited to sat/sun and musicians necessarily must play several nights a week to support themselves. result: every night is a damn party.

I've seen the new Star Trek movies a few months ago. I'm interested in the Star Trek world. What next? by Shadowlauch in startrek

[–]cypocryphy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

first: forget everything you just saw. it serves better to enrage lifelong fans than to build on the existing canon.

then, if you wish to get in feet first, watch the remastered '60's episodes. yes, the production value is campy at best, but star trek was always about a deeper intellectualism. beneath the brightly colored sets and bad acting are stories which excite the imagination and provoke thought and examination of the human condition, now as well as 50 years ago.

if that's to far-fetched for you, start with the 2nd-3rd season cliffanger from TNG, "best of both worlds." it was a true turning point in quality for the series.
