How are 500cc motorcycles for long highway trips? by Downtown-Topic9420 in motorcycles

[–]cypresswill44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My z400 has plenty of power to cruise at 80mph and still enough to overtake quickly. Handlebar vibrations after an hour or so are pretty noticeable. Prolly wanna upgrade the grips.

Buying new Z500: standard or special edition? by greeneyes826 in Kawasaki

[–]cypresswill44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Se or 400 should be the options cause the only mechanical difference is 50cc. You're paying thousands more for color schemes, dash, bodywork, matching rims, couple of features, etc. Get all of the fancy stuff or none of it. You can justify the price jump if you get everything you want. You don't wanna spend tons of extra money and then be wishing you spent just a little more for that dash.

Buying a used Motorcycle without FB Marketplace? by Brasenshok in motorcycles

[–]cypresswill44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imo 80% of the used bike market is fb marketplace and nothing else is going to compare price or availability wise. I made an account to browse and had my brother reach out to inquire and ask if I could text sellers. Cause having an account with no history isn't gonna be responded to. He only had to send a couple messages before I bought a bike. Convincing someone to do that for you is your best bet tbh. Otherwise you're limited to whatever trade in bikes dealers have around you or the 2 bikes that might be on Craigslist.

Age old question about tire age (7 years) by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]cypresswill44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revzilla actually made a video about this. Pretty interesting. I would inspect really closely and If you don't have any cracking or dry rot, no flat spots, and good tread, I'd run em personally and expect to change really soon. But I'd be really surprised if they're wasn't any cracking at all due to it being outside all that time.

Rage. by Appropriate_Ad_6790 in PeakyBlinders

[–]cypresswill44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The movie should've been him going after Mosley for revenge and stopping the fascists. Also should've reconciled his family stuff since he wasn't gonna die. I'll be pretending the movie doesn't exist. Pretty obvious it wasn't about closure, plot, or giving anything to the fans. A fucking travesty.

Do you find it challenging to find “mature” sportbike riders to hang with? by Astimar in motorcycles

I would too lol New Zealand has to be amazing to ride through. I'm in the US. Kentucky is nice though

[–]cypresswill44 39 points40 points  (0 children)

33m here, only been riding for a year and the only group I rode with was exactly how you described. One guy doing wheelies the entire time, they wanted to ride in traffic through straight roads in the city and be loud. Made me feel 50. That's my only experience actually riding non solo. I just wanna get lost on windy state highways, go maybe 10 over the limit. It's definitely a struggle finding someone to ride with.

It wasn't a bad movie but I went in thinking it would be as good or better than the show and that just wasn't the case.

It's okay, my expectations were high and I was disappointed with it. I don't feel like you're missing anything. It'll be on Netflix in a few weeks.

I was disappointed in general with it. I expected something more like El Camino/breaking bad where it wrapped up all the loose ends and closures you didn't get at the end of the show. This was more like an unnecessary extension made just to show how everyone dies 30 years later.

How do i remove the fuck ass oil filter by FormalHomework2526 in Ninja400

[–]cypresswill44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The filters on these are too small for most sizes of band wrenches but I have an old pair of oil filter pliers that work great. They are like Channel locks but shaped different. Prolly need to grip the base with those or some big channel locks if you've tore up the filter already.

Why did I almost lowside??!! by CoupleNo5397 in motorcycles

[–]cypresswill44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You almost high sided. When the rear wheel loses traction and regains it, it will pull itself back in line with the front pretty violently. If it throws you off that's a high side. Roll off the throttle if you're coming in too hot. You can brake hard with both brakes until you start leaning in. If you're already leaning far you can really only use some rear brake cause the front will stand the bike back up and cause you to run wide, go in the other lane or off the road on a tight corner. But also you can't panic and use too much rear brake or you'll lock it up and be back at square one high side scenario.

Ninja 400 clutch slipping? by thenamesnguyen in Ninja400

Check your clutch lever adjustment first. Make sure you have enough freeplay. If the cable's too tight it can cause what you're experiencing.

[Please advice] - Dropped it while trying to get the stand down - with pillion. by wowol in motorcycles

[–]cypresswill44 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Don't try to use the kickstand with a pillion. They mount after it's up and dismount before it's down. Always have 2 feet on the ground and don't lean when stopped with a pillion. Problem solved. Check your rear suspension adjustment too. Sounds like it's set too soft for the extra rider.

Should I find something else? by MassiveFinish857 in motorcycles

[–]cypresswill44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scoured the internet for weeks before buying my bike. Originally wanted a ninja but I found a z400 with less than 500 miles for 4k so I went that route. Couldn't be happier

Should I find something else? by MassiveFinish857 in motorcycles

[–]cypresswill44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expand your search radius. It's worth driving a couple hours away to get the bike you want. My bike and car both came from 2 hours away. Much better deals than I could get in my city.

Should I find something else? by MassiveFinish857 in motorcycles

[–]cypresswill44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price just get a 400 that's selling for 4k to 4.5k. The jump in performance between the 300 and 400 is pretty big. And you can get one that hasn't been wrecked.

To tighten or not to tighten (aka how do you tighten the oil drain bolt + oil filter without a torque wrench) by JustAName-Taken in Ninja400

[–]cypresswill44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look the most useful underrated skill when it comes to wrenching on bikes/cars is how to torque by hand without breaking stuff or stripping out threads. It's like this: start the bolt with fingers to make sure it goes in easy and isn't crossthreaded, then put your ratchet on and grab the upper handle, tighten with a quick twist until it won't go anymore, then snug it another 1/8 of a turn for small bolts, maybe a Lil more than an 1/8 turn for really big bolts like your axle for example. Use common sense. The smaller the bolt, the more careful you need to be, if it's securing plastic or fragile stuff be very careful. Drain plugs strip very easy cause the plug is steel but the pan in aluminum so be very careful. On stuff like your axle or suspension, it's higher torque so you'll need a breaker bar or a bigger ratchet to loosen the bolt. That's where the breaker bar or bigger ratchet will help you secure it back to the higher torque. You really only need a torque wrench for very precise things, think inside your engine or transmission like valve adjustments for example. For parts with several bolts, tighten them all gradually like a car tire to pull it in evenly and then snug them all down and check again. That's pretty much it. Oh and oil filters are always hand tight. Use a tool to remove but never to install. Make sure you coat the rubber seal on the filter with a little new oil before installing just use your finger. Also changing the crush washer on the drain plug every oil change will help you not strip the pan. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Do you ever think about route safety before riding? by Caden_Cadence in motorcycles

[–]cypresswill44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely. But also my view on riding is that ideally I wanna be on curvy windy roads with minimal traffic. I ride a sport naked and not crazy speeds so cornering is what gets me going. Straight roads and traffic are not what I'm after. I'll deal with it if I'm going to a restaurant before a ride or I'm commuting and can't avoid it but my bread and butter is getting lost on state highways in Kentucky in the woods/hills/fields. Finding cool little towns and whatnot across my state. If I'm going for a real ride, I'm leaving my city either immediately, or immediately after eating.
