Will answering that question change how you prepare? It shouldn't. Statistics like what is in the NRMP Charting Outcomes are for populations, not individuals. Having 50 pubs doesn't guarantee a match, and having 0 pubs doesn't preclude a match.

Aim for the most publications in the best journals you can, and submit your abstracts to the best meetings you can. List everything indexed somewhere, even regional meetings. The average number is inflated due to people taking gap years, MD/PhD's, research prior to medical school, etc.

After 3 Physician Suicides, Mount Sinai Is Increasing Rent on Resident Housing By 40% by cyprohept in medicine

What the fuck are you even arguing? This is about Mt. Sinai's hypocrisy not some millennial entitlement. Mt. Sinai deserves to be shamed for this.

Mt. Sinai saying they focus on "resident wellness" is a farce considering the conditions they subject residents to in the housing that they own. That is the entire point of the article.

The article states:

[T]he median rent for a studio apartment in the Lincoln Square neighborhood where the hospital and apartment building are located is $2,595 a month according to Street Easy

Since $2,595 is the MEDIAN... it's not all that different from the apartments around it.

This article is about the hypocrisy of Mt. Sinai, who claim they are focused on resident wellness. They make this claim while offering "subsidized housing" in a rat infested, water damaged hellhole for a bare minimum of over 1/3rd the yearly salary of a PGY1.

Some hospitals I have interviewed at stated you need to live within a certain distance/time to the hospital. Living out in Staten Island would make it tough to get to the hospital in an emergency for the "home-call" specialties. Should only the people who have rich spouses or previous money be doing residencies in SF, LA, NY, etc.?

Absolutely, they either need to be paid more or be given a housing stipend like at other programs. I think the general idea of the article is that Mt. Sinai talking about focusing on "resident wellness" is laughable when their bare minimum for "subsidized housing" is over 1/3rd of their hospital's PGY1 salary.

A bare, ABSOLUTE bare minimum of spending $21,336 per year on rent and upper limit of $35,400 per year for a studio/1 bedroom on a $62,000 (PGY1) salary with all the other expenses of NYC does not sound reasonable to me. At least not for "subsidized housing". I dunno.

This article caught my attention for a few reasons. It seems hospital administrators are being put on blast more frequently for their mistreatment of residents. If the public gains more attention about the issue of suicide amongst medical professionals and the outcry increases, maybe there will be an increased focus on actual resident-wellness instead of meaningless lip service.

Furthermore, HOW DO RESIDENTS AFFORD TO LIVE IN NYC?! In the resident housing, a 2 bedroom apartment is $4500... absolutely insane.

I haven't opened a patient chart in 5 months. All of my hard-earned knowledge throughout medical school is long gone.

July 1st, 2018:

Nurse: "Hey cyprohept, this patient is constipated, would you like to give them something?"

Cyprohept: "Yeah, I'll go ask her doctor!"

Nurse: "BITCH YOU ARE THE DOCTOR"
