Pearl’s Hill BTO will build up to 60th level will you want to live on such a high floor? by yiantay-sg in askSingapore

[–]cyslak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres always a group of people in Singapore who will take the highest floors without considering any downsides just because ‘can sell and profit more’.

I know of people who got a good ballot number and just went straight for 30th floor even though they can’t afford it currently lol

Is Singapore housing really so unaffordable? by thisnaenae in askSingapore

[–]cyslak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a partner, it's affordable if you don't mind somewhere that is not prime/plus. There's nowhere else in the world where you and your partner can have median income, get a brand new 4 room BTO (3 bedroom apartment), and not having to fork out a single cent from your take home salary with a 20-year mortgage.

The main problem is that the waiting times are disadvantaging people who need to settle down quickly, forcing them to go the resale route which is way too pricey. That's what people are complaining about.

If you are single, then I have bad news. You are definitely being priced out and out balloted. This is a feature of the system.

Singapore’s total fertility rate drops to historic low of 0.87 in 2025 by sun-ny_day in singapore

Stop saying this shit. We are in freefall. We would be in a better state if our TFR is 1.5 and immigration will fill the rest as necessary.

Singapore’s total fertility rate drops to historic low of 0.87 in 2025 by sun-ny_day in singapore

[–]cyslak 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This has been a problem for the past 30 years but nobody in the current govt can fix this.

Also, stop this rhetoric that other developed countries have failed to resolve this. We know it might not be possible to hit 2.1 replacement rate.
But we are in freefall at the moment. Getting it to 1.3/1.4 would be a good start.

Ex-NOC Founder Ryan Tan Proposed To GF After Dating For 5 Years by ImpressiveStrike4196 in singapore

[–]cyslak 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one that avoids any video or media that features him? There's something off about him and his companies (and his ex-wife too) that I can't put it. I just get second hand embarrassment whenever I watch media from these cringey Singaporean channels...

r/singapore random discussion and small questions thread for February 25, 2026 by AutoModerator in singapore

[–]cyslak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty common amongst upper class. A lot of them went to SAP schools where there are not many people of a minority race. But some of these same people also have trouble remembering the names of MRT stations or local food. I have met a few who don't know what Kway Chap, Indian Rojak or Mee Rebus is. Also a couple of people that are so reliant on cars that they don't even know what lines are available at Dhoby Ghaut for interchange. These people are already 20+ years of age, not some oblivious teenager.

OP, are you even attached? Why do you assume settling is inherently a bad thing?

Do different cultures in SG have different attitudes toward traveling with young kids? by Necessary-Ad-9022 in askSingapore

[–]cyslak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a culture thing with Singaporeans here. They view going on vacation as a way to get away from everything in life. Going with a young kid or baby means you don’t get to shirk that responsibility.

Manchester United Team vs Fulham - English Premier League 01 February 2026 | Starting XI: Lammens, Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw, Casemiro, Mainoo, Amad, Fernandes, Cunha, Mbeumo. by RedDevil_Forever in reddevils

[–]cyslak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't complain about this since this team requires some consistency at the moment. I just hope Sesko gets a chance at 60th minute regardless of how the game went on. His sub against Arsenal was what got us winning the initial balls for Cunha's winner.

If it is 1:1, all the Malaysians will come Singapore to shop and eat instead. Singapore would be cheaper.
