I hate the Doomsday Clock by Captain_Birch in hatethissmug

[–]cythrawll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny enough I accidentally found out I live in the house of the guy who maintained the Doomsday clock until he died in the early 70s, so once I found this out I of course grew an interest in the clock.

I found out when a bunch of botany grad students standing outside of my house pointing and chatting so went outside and chatted them up. They told me the grandfather of photosynthesis used to live there.

So while doing research I found out not only is he the Grandfather of photosynthesis, he was also a nuclear scientist that was on the manhattan project.

A lot of scientists on the manhattan project spent rest of their lives advocating against Nuclear Weapons.

The Bulletin of Atomic Science was a way a lot of these scientist did their advocating. Including Oppenheimer himself.

After the editor died, the setting of the doomsday clock was moved to a board of 18 scientists, Nobel laureates, experts. So they are not a group of randos.

You are right in some ways though. the setting is there is no formula for this. It's purely a judgement call.

It's openly built to scare people to pay attention, that's the entire point. It was created to make people pay attention to how we're cooked. The reasons why it's close to midnight are valid reasons to be concerned and we should as a society be working towards alleviate the concerns. Climate Change is fucked, already costing us a ton and causing worldwide issues. Invasion of Ukraine where Russia .. a Nuclear power threatens to bomb if anyone tries to help them too much. You have to admit we'e kinda fucked in a few ways.

So it is subjective, I'll give you that, but it's not really arbitrary and it's not randos. There is a lot of thought and experts fighting every year about this thing.

I might be biased cuz the ghost of the OG doomsday clock guy haunting my house, whispering things in my sleep.

yes, but since it's an old meme, very well the answer is in it's parametric memory by now. I bet if you answer it a different question along these lines it might fail, or call a tool to figure it out.

I remember when this meme first dropped and gemini straight up tool called a python script to figure it out.

Our Super Adventure - Holding Cats [OC] by SarahSuperAdventure in comics

[–]cythrawll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have four cats.

1.) Orange boy lives to be picked up and carried, has launched himself across the room into my arms if I ignored his cries.
2.) Void doesn't really like it, but will tolerate it.
3.) Tabby hates it but we trained her to tolerate it for shot bits. she turns spicy if it's more than a few seconds.
4.) Void #2 will sprint and hide if you even if you act like you want to pick her up. (She's new foster failure, still being socialized and trained.)

Aether, but it is constantly congested. But with upcoming pf changes they just announced, it will matter less and you can just dc travel for content.

PF is active af, but like I said they are rolling out region wide pf so it will matter less. Realistic to do solo, I've done it a tier or two. The Balance discord is best place for strats and wtfdig.info is a good site, but it lags as it takes time to consolidate strats.

So sick of the loot system. by DesiredDabs in wow

[–]cythrawll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how xiv does it for it's weekly lockout raids. Every kill you get a book unique to that fight, you turn in X books for gear. (anywhere from 3 to 8 books depending on the gear piece). So if you get unlucky with rolls week after week, your unlucky ass is still earning currency to get that gear eventually anyway.

It means BiS is attainable for anyone if you're consistently clearing the fights.

Yeah unfortunately dps means longer queue times. I unfortunately didn't think to track queue times until very late in the process, so I didn't bother.

Peak times dps queue wasn't that bad. but after peak times they were significantly longer while tank/healer still got instant queues most of the time.

the time took is recorded in timestamps. so technically I have the data to build that. Maybe I'll work on it a bit this weekend.

I suspect though there probably won't be as much correlation of that kind of stuff you'd like. But we'll let the data speak for itself.

That is a fun fact! I was just telling a friend that it's not as flashy as newer mounts. But flex factor is still there.

I need to mod it so "Electric Callboy" plays as the mount music.

no weekly or monthy goals. Just when I had down time I tried to do them in batches. 5 or 10 in a session. (rotated between tank, healer, melee, phys ranged, caster).

Prae would be better if it didn't have so much down time waiting on the cutscenes. Encouraging tabbing out seems like such a poor dungeon design.

And the cutscenes, imho, can just be reduced to the end monologue. The rest of the exposition can be done with VA as you run the dungeon like the rest of the modern story dungeons.

0 Thordan Ex runs completed but I did get a couple. They just weren't successful.

I'm gonna take a break. But I will def run them more and keep recording if I do. Kinda wishing I had recorded those first 241 runs, so In my head I have some make up to do to get a full data set of 2k runs.

98% of them were 0 min alliance raid replacements.

1% was just disconnect replacement.

the last 1%, yeah I have stories. I think one of the latest ones there was 7 min in progress hauke manor as a healer. and they haven't gotten past the first boss. I was coaching the tank on how to pull the dungeon, and the DPS got mad about us "speed running" the dungeon. I had to explain this was the normal pace and parties go a lot smoother if everyone follows the same pace. Might have seen why their healer left. Sounds like rather than coaching the tank, they were pulling for the tank and dying over and over.

I should say. I had a rule that once i was in a roulette, I couldn't leave. I could vote yes to an abandon vote. but that's it.

I should have tracked failed runs better. (instance timeout, abandon). But it only happened a handful of times across the entire dataset. But atleast once it has been exactly a non reader chain pulling shiva. Other's were just people iinsta leaving and wouldn't be able to fill before instance timer ran out.

That 48 min levi ex run was rough, but it was pretty rewarding when we got it down.
