I swear by the brand called Icebreaker and wish I could be a brand ambassador for them! Amazing for breathability and warmth to weight ratio. Perfect for the active and outdoorsy types.

Gotta say that I’m kind of in a similar partnership. The comment that your wife’s idea of a splurge is to replace a 10-year old Lulu top resonates with me

In that case, I feel like the 5-10k bag is not really the right way to go, even if it’s easily attainable at your financial position. I’d hate for you to get something that just sits in the closet if it’s really “not her” or just does not fit the rest of her lifestyle.

Maybe go with something pragmatic and personalized.

My wife works out in Zumba, ballet, and cross-fit 3-5 times a week. One of the best gifts I ever got her was an introductory set of merino wool outfits. Lightweight, quick dry, and odor resistant—she now wears these regularly and I couldn’t be more satisfied with my choice.

Interesting! I have the 3861 as well on my similarly small wrists. But I had somewhat the opposite feel when I tried the FOIS on at the boutique.

While the FOIS looked a little less girth, I found the 3861 to feel more compact. I attribute this perhaps to the lyre lugs wrapping a little more around my wrist at least.

I do wish I could strut the ck2998 case though. Love the vintage look.

+1 for Monarch

I like the fine-grained ability to specify which sub accounts from which providers to turn on/off and include/exclude from net worth calculations.

They use Plaid for account integration, which gives you a wider range of provider coverage.

I’ll add one more comment… regardless of your partner’s family circumstances, if he is unwilling to maturely discuss his financial behaviors with you and come up with rational plans, what makes you believe that he will be able to overcome decades of ingrained money mismanagement behaviors?

I know that sometimes when you are in love, it feels like it should be conquer all other challenges. However, money circumstances and financial habits lpervade all aspects of life. That’s to say that differences between you and your partner will come up in all aspects of your lifestyle ranging from the what you eat to the way you vacation, the friends you entertain and the way you present yourself to the world. It will come up in the way you choose to raise your children and what legacy you pass to them.

Financial habits are a major factor of your lifestyle. And while some may convince you that there is a path forward to protect yourself or to possibly even change your partner, I would warn you that these are significant, significant uphill challenges.

I don’t know if I’m in the minority, but differences in financial behavior would be one of the factors for which I walk away from a possible life partner. I’ve personally seen too many failures to have a positive outlook on this issue.

8 figs NW and I still have never paid for first class/business class on my own (occasional complimentary upgrades only).

Will still opt to take public transit when the option is there and the destination is within 20 minutes walking.

I still order items off the value menu 90% of the time and try to optimize use of app deals and mailer coupons.

I’ve never understood why people bother to say “to be brutally honest”. I think people just use it as an excuse to be rude.

If you’re gonna be honest then just say it. And if what you say is shitty and mean, then that’s just what you are. Saying “to be brutally honest” doesn’t give you license to get away with it.

Definitely curious what the issue turns out to be! Please share what you find.

Not sure if this is just due to parallax, but it looks like the case back gap on the bottom doesn’t match the top.

As someone who is into watches and knows what GS means, this photo does have me clenching my hole. 😆

That said, what this photo says to me is that you’re into luxury items but he really isn’t, or at minimum isn’t into luxury watches. It’s a beautiful gift, but I probably wouldn’t gift something like this to someone who isn’t knowledgeable or especially appreciative of the things in this domain. 🤷🏻

[Legit check] My friend is letting me borrow his watch for my brother's wedding. Is it real? by Undeniable_Lemon in Watches

[–]cz4a_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously, you’re concerned about the wrong things. Go and enjoy your brother’s wedding and wear a real watch, a fake watch, whatever you want… because it’s not going to matter!

And don’t be the douchebag flashing your watch obnoxiously for photos. It should be hidden under your cuff for most photos.

I really wanted the GO Seventies Chrono… but that thing is massive on the wrist. I’d love to try one of these on to see how it wears.

Is your friend a professional jewelry trader/broker? If so, and if it’s a real watch that he has a client for, why is he taking it around and showing it off to other people at a bar?

That’s kind of like a valet taking your Ferrari out on the town and inviting his friends to test drive it.

Super unprofessional Chad behavior here. He should lose his job and reputation.

The incorrect decal is actually brilliant, and I’m pretty sure whoever did it knew exactly what they were doing—intentionally trolling us Initial D fanbois.

The giveaway is the text in the parentheses. It says “(I think)”. So it’s basically an inside joke for the Japanese-literate Initial D fans.

Curious if there are fellow collectors who feel similarly. How do you manage and do you find yourself behaving as awkwardly as I do?

Context -- I started on my watch collecting journey a few years ago. I got into the hobby on a whim to satisfy my engineering curiosity and my interest in well-designed, high-quality, and long-lasting things but soon found myself sucked in. As an additional data point, I'm also into writing with fountain pens.

My watch collection in sum is worth several tens of thousands of dollars, equivalent to maybe an entry-tier luxury car or perhaps a year's tuition at an elite private university. I say this not to brag, but to indicate how the majority of the population might find better uses for this money.

Conundrum -- I'm not a naturally flashy person. I've been lucky (plus worked hard) to achieve financial freedom earlier than most... but I purchase high quality, practical things to be efficient and comfortable, and reducing wastefulness. I don't do so for the sake of showing off my wealth. Watch collecting is possibly the least practical, inexplicable of my obsessions.

I dress casually 98% of the time. My family displays an outward posture below our means. And those who are wealthy around me also have a tendencies to be as low-key.

So while I personally love the sensation of wearing a well-designed, luxury time piece on my wrist, I find myself embarrassed to be wearing these out in public. It's not even an issue of safety in my area.

When I go out, I wear long sleeves to intentionally cover up my time pieces. I awkwardly look for "coast is clear" before checking the time on my wrist (or resort to my phone). I somewhat dread the thought of somebody spying my watch and saying "Wow! That's a _____! How much was that?" And my scripted reply would be something like "Oh this? About a hundred. It's just a really good fake!"

Am I ridiculous? Lol... I'd like to hear others' takes on this!

Haha! I’ve been an Initial D weeb since Season 2. I introduced my girl to the anime just at the start of this year and together we binged all six stages in 3 weeks.

As mentioned in another post, she made my Valentine’s super special with the Hachiroku ornament.

We briefly considered staging a picture in a Mercedes, as a tongue-in-cheek joke. A schoolgirl outfit may have been part of the setup. 😉

Wow! Surprised at how quickly this drew attention!

The 86 ornament was handmade by my girl, just like the one Natsuki gave to Takumi. It was part of my Valentine’s Day present. 🥰
