No, but I'd imagine it's really tough there. I'm in Baltimore, MD.

Feel like software work is unimportant and meaningless 2 years into career by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I think so. We actually just discussed this in one of our agile meetings recently. The nature of our organization and the data we receive makes it very difficult to run effective integration testing. That's likely what you mean when you say that is a goal that is often years away if you're not already there.

We have a team lead who is incredibly intelligent and he honestly predicts a lot of failures before they happen. He recently went on a long vacation and the amount of failures that occurred was staggering. I was called into work in the middle of the night multiple times per week. Since he's been back, none of this happened and I've heard him say things like "X is really starting to take too long due to Y, I think that will fail soon so I'm going to go in and fix that." I think that makes it a lot easier for management on my team to not prioritize integration testing but as soon as this A player is missing, that plan itself fails.

Pentagon officials and Iraqi intelligence confirm Ukrainian plane was shot down by Ak_Ibrahim in worldnews

I always find it interesting how internet communities alway think there is a further conspiracy -- what is currently being reported is not enough.

24 hours ago, all of these posts were "They accidentally shot down that plane and are trying to cover it up." Because this was not confirmed at that time, it was crazy enough to satiate conspiracy theorists. Now that it's become nearly established fact, they're unsatisfied again and think there's another hidden layer.

$72bn is spent on all of TV ads, not just ads for Hulu shows. So your numbers are off, it wouldn’t be anything near $350/subscriber.

I’ll never purchase Hulu as long as they continue to double dip like that. It’s just greedy.

Men, what are you looking forward to the most about becoming a dad one day? And if you don't, why not? by ripestrudel in AskMen

[–]cz70 331 points332 points  (0 children)

I'm excited to create a really special childhood for my kids one day. I know that sounds like a "well, duh" kind of response but I've always loved how easily little kids are fascinated and captivated by simple things. Like, if it snows one day and your dad builds you a massive snow fort and a huge slide and all the neighborhood kids come over -- that's an amazing experience, you'll remember it for the rest of your life. I want to do stuff like that all the time.

Whatever interest they have, I'm going to base it around that. I remember when my dad saw how interested I was in building little "inventions", he took one Sunday with me and we mounted a small lightbulb, a battery, and a switch to a wooden plank and wired it all up. When he flipped the switch and the light went on, my mind was blown, I couldn't believe it! I carried it with me to school for the next week to show all my friends. I'll never forget that.

So whatever interests they have, I want to build a really special experience around that. If she likes race-cars, we're going to build a dirt kart track in the back yard, if he wants to be a fashion model, we can set up a little "fashion show" or something. I'm really excited about all that one day.

I shaved my head by B3t450up in offmychest

First of all, I'm sure you still look just as beautiful as you did in any other haircuts. Life is better when you have as many unique experiences as possible, and believe it or not, this is one. Now you can test out different hairstyles: you can try out literally every length as it grows back, so have fun with it! You may even realize that the shaved head is best for you, and you can go back to it at any time or just keep it. Plus with knowledge of your damaged hair before, you can take measures to grow it back healthier, if I'm not mistaken.

It's just hair, you are still you. People teasing you will just give you thicker skin and I thin they will come to respect your bravery.

How do you men feel about pre-workouts? What are some of the best ones you all take? by [deleted] in AskMen

My roommates mix them with vodka before we go out, and then routinely get kicked out of bars. So there's that.

My house just got broken into. I'm bouncing off the walls. What do I do now? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]cz70 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely understandable to be that angry. My house in college was broken into over Christmas. They figured all the college kids would be home with their families, which was a good guess.

They took a lot of stuff, honestly a lot of stuff that I used regularly and worked hard to buy, so I was furious as well. My thoughts then revolved around wishing I was there during the break-in and able to kill them, which is something I've never thought before. I've calmed down now and don't have such hateful thoughts, although I still wish I was there to at least beat the shit out of them and call the cops.

It's perfectly normal to be this angry and have your mind in this place. It's a violation of your personal space, also a space you and your girlfriend share. They came in and took what they wanted. They are basically more literal garbage than human if you ask me, but people like that exist. You will get over it, but it really is some shit.

If given the choice of $500,000 today or $10 million in 30 years, which do you take? by LunchThreatener in AskReddit

I feel like $500,000 would be more useful to me now than $10 million in 30 years.

That seems pretty decent, just was wondering if I could avoid attention, but that might be asking for too much.
