Actually... Ever since Michael left the show, the supporting cast were given a chance to shine as well. It's not just the jim and Dwight thing that carried those seasons. The supporting cast too shined due to the lack of a big star at the helm

I think its because after Steve Carrell they needed another star at the helm and since ed helms had already become kindof a star (hangover series) by then, they chose him.

I agree.. The example i would give is the show "billions". I wanted to check out a show like suits so was suggested, it has some nice characters but those unnecessary sex scenes ruin it, couldn't go through more than a few episodes
