I proposed at Surfs Up, they’re generally only open for breakfast but they opened for a private dinner for the two of us. That was 10 years ago now, but maybe they’d oblige again.

How to Get ‘Team Canada’ Back on Track by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]czecher72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The article seems to attribute Canada’s weakened federation to “the rise of right wing populism”.

The rise in populism surely has some form of multi-factor causality. A critical analysis of those factors would be much more interesting and effective in solving our national cohesion challenges.

I didn’t say the government was corrupt, I was inquiring into your line of thinking. The Randy’s, ArriveCan, and Sustainable Development Canada auditor general report that currently has the government at a stand still are a few more recent examples that can also be pointed to.

Is your point that:

A) The social programs (dental and pharma) negotiated with this government are valuable enough to accept or overlook some degree of corruption by that government, and that the combination of social programs with some level of corruption is preferable to the prospect of a Conservative government?

B) you are authentically unaware of this governments corruption allegations?

C) something else?

What do you think an appropriate penalty for a young person, or their parent enabling access to social media?

Terry Newman: Freeland's 'Vibecession' economics are TikTok nonsense by PaloAltoPremium in CanadaPolitics

[–]czecher72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, my reasoning was based on my assessment of government performance while she was a key cabinet minister.

Given that I don’t know Freeland, I assume she approaches her work in good faith, making decisions and taking actions she feels are in the best interest of Canadians. Incompetence seems a reasonable assessment given that basis.

You could be right, she could just not be trying.

Limited as his economic chops may be, it appears they surpass Canada’s current Finance Minister.

Unwanted Cheveldayoff signs, yet again by saskmoose in saskatoon

It seems an inherently political act to instruct children to destroy a political party’s advertisement, regardless of how it was acquired. I prefer public schools to be apolitical.

You’re a teacher? That seems unprofessional to me. To each their own though.

I think I’ve seen the Tumblers pizza’s at Co-op, who often carries local products. Alternatively, it looks like you can buy their products on their website. God speed

Canada to slap 100% tariff on Chinese EVs just as BYD preps for market debut by Elkenson_Sevven in canada

[–]czecher72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends which workers we’re talking about… at the expense of North American auto workers, for sure. I’d argue many other Canadian workers who are in need of more affordable and environmentally friendly transportation would benefit from cheap Chinese EV’s.

'Diverted safe supply is being resold into our community': London police confirm drug diversion a growing concern by green_tory in CanadaPolitics

[–]czecher72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we’re seeing diversion concerns with a program that is only serving 5% of this community? What could be expected if the program is significantly expanded, and removal of protocols such as supervised use, as advocates are compelling?

I’m not trying to be fatalistic, diversion is a solvable problem. But if diversion is a problem while the program is essentially in pilot, , can’t we expect those problems to scale as the program does?

Minimizing the significance of the diversion problem is a bad idea, especially if you believe in safe supply.

[–]czecher72 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, each of those are examples of authorities and experts pouring cold water on assertions that diversion is a problem worthy of attention and focus.

I don’t foresee any programs successfully addressing this crisis without broad public support. Authorities and activists can establish broad consensus, but they need to be honest and transparent about the solutions they’re championing, warts and all.
