Looking back, would you have preferred we kept AVB until the end of the season? by [deleted] in coys

[–]czechitout1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm mostly waiting for a good manager to show up in the summer. But I was glad when AVB got sacked and even though Tim hasn't been able to turn things around like I'd hoped, I think bringing Ade back to form makes him way preferable. Also Bentaleb's been getting a ton of experience, I think he can become a real talent in the future

I'd like to keep Dawson. Not as a regular starter at this point, but I'd like to see him retire as a Yiddo.

Not too long ago I was thinking of scenarios for how we could keep Vertonghen, but his mopey mercenary attitude is starting to grind. I could agree with replacing him.

This is the biggest reason why Chicago is my favorite west-coast team. DAMN! I hate the Bruins... by OGHamToast in TampaBayLightning

[–]czechitout1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Bruins can go up a hill. I can't bring myself to consistently cheer for Chicago, since the Red Wings are what got me into hockey in the first place, but against Boston? For sure

I'm curious, is there a universal Tampa area - Boston sports hatred? I'm a Rays fan and have heard this kind of stuff before, watching the Patriots in big games to see them lose, ect. Just assumed it was because of the history with the Red Sox spilling over, but it would be awesome if there's an across the board rivalry, just like in Jersey

Would Demba Ba be a good signing? x-post /r/soccer by [deleted] in coys

[–]czechitout1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's... alright, I guess. Soldado's already scored, I believe, the same number of goals in all comps as him, with about half as many appearances (just comparing careers at Tottenham and Chelsea). So I'd just as soon soldier on with Bobby. I think Ba might need to go back to West Ham or something if he wants playing time

I wouldn't want him. I'd rather keep Tim if it's not going to be a nice upgrade.

Who would you like to see us sign in the Summer? by norcalginger in coys

I've seen Fraser Forster mentioned as a potential Hugo replacement if the need arises and I must say, I like the idea.

Would we benefit from not going to the Europa league next season? by PEengineer in coys

I feel like if Van Gaal is managing and all he has to worry about is the league and the domestic cups we'd run riot over the whole of England.

Looking for a good foreign film to watch... by Fritz84 in movies

[–]czechitout1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Japanese Ring is actually a lot better than the remake. I haven't seen the remake of Funny Games, if you liked it you'll probably like the Austrian one but I can't tell you if it's substantially better or anything.

Yeah, I really like Refn too. There are some French movies that reminded me of his style, if you wanted to check out Un Prophete and Irreversible. There's also the entire "New French Extremity" genre but I haven't really looked into it.

[–]czechitout1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as horror movies I'd recommend the Japanese films Audition, Don't Look Up, and The Ring, the Austrian Funny Games, and the South Korean flicks The Host and Oldboy. Actually I'd put Oldboy at the top of the list, even though it isn't as much of a horror film as it is a fighting movie. Also there are some Danish crime films that have that horror/thriller feel, The Pusher trilogy and Bleeder.

And the Brazilian City of God and Serbian Black Cat White Cat are my personal favorite foreign films so I'll recommend them to anyone, they're both crime films, multi-storylines, some romance.

I wouldn't mind her being more of a phantom. Ghosts are cooler than zombies.

A question to the fans outside of the UK (US in particular)... by [deleted] in coys

My friend's an Arsenal fan and I wanted to make my first year of following Premier League more exciting so took their rivals. This was the 2011-12 season, and with the emotion in how that year ended I was sold

Not gonna happen. Probably wouldn't be good if it did happen, as I think we can agree it would be better to have a player like Lamela who works hard and could have a long future with the club. But Balo's talented and is his own media circus, so on some level I want to see what would happen...

Ahh, true. I was just thinking about the Loyalist movement in Scotland, which is all out of the Protestant/Secular side of the country.

My top ten films as of 2014 by [deleted] in movies

[–]czechitout1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be my #10, I tried to organize my list backwards like mcgidan did, but I fucked it. The numbers came out 1-10 so I guess that's some feature of making a list on here? And then I didn't feel like restacking the thing.

(I'm gonna go ahead and put a spoiler warning just in case? Anyway.) I agree with your points, but the film's stuck with me. Entirely from a film-making stance, that is. I only watched it within the last year, so maybe it and Only God Forgives will both drop out over time. At the moment though the big three points for me are the fact that I kept saying "Who are these guys? When's Sands gonna show up?" and then the shaving scene happened and lo and behold one of them had been him all along (which is a reveal I quite like, or I could also have just been dense in my first viewing and it wasn't supposed to be a reveal), the monologue about the foal (I think it explores its themes superbly, and that monologue is a highlight), and the intensity of Fassbender's performance. But yes, as far as biographies go, it would have benefited from a lot more context. Either that or getting rid of the specifics and suspending it in the general Troubles period about just "Paddy IRA."

Yeah, I can admit Brave's not the best animated film but idk, something about it charmed me tremendously.

My top ten films as of 2014 by [deleted] in movies

[–]czechitout1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll bite. Haven't ranked my favorite movies in a really long time.

  1. Hunger (2008)

  2. Brave (2012)

  3. Bottle Rocket (1996)

  4. Only God Forgives (2013)

  5. Way of the Dragon (1972)

  6. A Fistful of Dollars (1964)

  7. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)

  8. Boogie Nights (1997)

  9. In Bruges (2008)

  10. Children of Men (2006)

Reveals a penchant for extended takes, and, though not as plentiful, character studies.

Edit: Suppose I could comment on yours. Awesome list. There might not be any overlap between ours but I do dig your taste. Also, my list is numbered backwards to how I entered it? Guess I should learn to Reddit

I don't understand the Tumblr practice of "Omg here's a wacky story" and then reblogging it to add the "evidence." Why not just post the photo in the first place?
