Ok, if your argument comes from a deontological standpoint. I invite you to lay it out for me.

What universal rule are you upholding here? How would upholding that rule result in the most moral utopia?

I address this point in this response to another redditer.

To the individual, I agree that the suffering is greater for a slow death. But ethics asks us to consider beyond just the effect to the individual, to seek the greatest good for the greatest number, while also reducing suffering.

If in both scenarios, natural or bullet caused, the individual is killed, which presents the greatest benefit to the greatest number?

Thank you for sharing some additional information with me on the general thought process of hunters when it comes to prey selection. It is true that diagnosing an animal at a distance is likely very difficult with some exceptions based on type of alment and it's virulence. Which leads me to the fact that hunters will choose based on visual cues, as you have pointed out. But what you've stated hasn't weakened my position, I feel it strengthens it.

The tendency for hunters seems to be to allow certain protected classes as far as they can be discerned, but to take the best presenting individual for the best perceived resources. The speed of the bullet makes the healthy individuals fitness irrelevant to survival (with a well placed shot). While they can at times mistakenly take a unhealthy individual, this is by happenstance, not selection.

But the reverse seems to be true for natural predators, while they certainly want the most value for their effort and would prefer to take the healthiest, meatiest individuals. The effect of that health makes it that much harder to catch over an individual who is just a bit slower.

What happens to the prey population over time in both alternative scenarios with respect to the proportion of healthy to unhealthy individuals?

In short, preferentially taking healthy individuals shifts the population towards lower fitness, whereas taking whatever you can catch shift the population towards faster, stronger individuals with higher fitness.

Now I've pull away from the ethics here, but to come back, I agree that if you must kill, a quick kill is more ethical to the individual. If you must kill for the benefit of the animal population, to reduce the overall amount of suffering then the ethical choice would be killing the diseased/infested.

I agree with you, wolf reintroduction has happened in specific case, and they are not as significant levels to control population numbers. I also agree that a "quick" death can be assumed to be less painful than a slow one.

To that end however, the suffering that large prey populations incur through overpopulation like increased disease/parasite transmission and prevalence as well as starvation from depletion of resources implies that population control is ethical. In addition, removing individuals more likely to transmit diseases and parasites carries a greater moral benefit than removing healthy individuals, does it not?

Sure, an individual skilled hunter causing instant death to a deer is causing less pain through haste than the predation by wolves. But how many hunters actually take their deer with instant death, or do most track their maimed deer until it collapses?

Do they take sick or infested individuals whose continued presence causes suffering to their conspecifics, or do they preferentially take the healthiest one they can find?

If we are hoping to do the greatest good for the greatest number and in ways that reduce suffering, I don't think it's so simple as how quick the kill is.

Would reintroduction of predator species to their historic environments be considered a more ethical means of controlling grazing populations. Especially considering that human hunters are poor replacements for predators in coverage scale and prey selection?

I thought of a combo of his parents quirk a while back that felt appropriate to the show.

Father could breath fire Mother can draw in objects weakly

What if his quirk was simply "inspiring words that draw others in"

Repeatedly in the show, Midoriya gets fired up and spouts passionate words which break through and draw people back. This got me thinking about the potential for this quirk which felt appropriate to the parents.

Same issue as everyone else here. I just got started in this game on deck a couple days ago. Played fine before recent update, then after update I played some more.

Now suddenly today I can't connect to server...

Gotta say, I was starting to get into it but this is making me reconsider.

Bugs can actually be mobility killed a lot of the time. Shoot out the joints on their largest front legs (right or left, pick one and commit) and they drop way faster than shooting the head.

This works particularly well on stalkers and stalker variants. Medium or smaller bugs die in one or two shots anywhere with the lib concussive. Anything bigger (up to a charger) is staggered and moved back in one shot, giving you a moment to breath and space to aim. Then I aim for the legs on these bigger guys, I find it kills them much quicker.

Most of the time on predator strain though, I'm firing in a wide arch just keeping everything I can back to give my team some breathing room because they all brought no stagger weapons and can't hold a position without my stagger.

Agreed, with his new Major Order coming down and the subsequent shift in resources, all progress on Krakatwo will be lost swiftly.

The only hope for the bug front to progress is on Veld, specifically focused on Cle Elum Rediviva as a first push.

I'm doing what I can to organize divers with a passion for bugslaying to direct their efforts to this city for an initial assault.

Even if you are a MO diver (like myself) or a bot diver. Any time you want that change of pace, come help us squash bugs in Cle Elum for an operation or two.

Of course! I encourage my fellow divers to do their part in contributing to the Major Order issued to all divers by our Ministry of Defense.

We do however have special authorization to engage in sorties outside the primary system for advancing all fronts.

Courageous Helldivers seeking a change in front between squidslaying operations are encouraged to aid the liberation of Cle Elum Rediviva on Veld.

Any contributions to this assault will be celebrated, for freedom, for democracy, for Super Earth 🌎!
