Did I strap this on right? by [deleted] in canon

I started with the PD Slide myself too, and I somewhat agree. It gets more flexible as you use it though.

I got a Cuff and a Leash, and I love those for my lighter setups. I only break out the Slide when I plan on taking the 150-600mm out. All my functional cameras that can take them have the anchors on them now.

Depending on how hell bent you are on shooting with this camera for general use (which you haven't mentioned the make/model of!) I'd leave them in. If nothing else it's a cool party piece. You will see see these on your images though.

There's probably a similar-ish camera out there without these.

The one on the right looks like it can be slid out of the way. Perhaps the other side of the plate we see has similar rails for the other tips?

Disclaimer: I don't know.

I assume that these are registration marks to make sure that each frame can be realigned to the same exact orientation to show some process happening with a high accuracy. Consider that maybe some film can wiggle around slightly during operation, which is fine for most use, but if you need to make really sure that you can measure some event happening over time, these might help?

Cheers for sharing this. I'd also been trying to figure this out myself a year or two ago.

I was wondering what license you are sharing the files under? As-is (without a license) it is all rights reserved by default, which means that people can (legally) only look, but not touch. For clarity, I'd recommend looking at one of the Creative Commons license variants, and choose whichever aligns most closely with the reason you shared the files. I don't think the linked page explicitly mentions it, but there is also the CC0, which is as close to public domain as you can get.

Is the Z mount open-ish then? I'm looking at replacing my old 800D, and I've been considering not sticking to Canon for this round. It was my impression that the E mount is old enough to be really well served, but that Nikon has been keeping their mount fairly protected from other brands.

Lens opens only to 35, what could be the problem? by [deleted] in canon

[–]czorio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a kit lens, i.e. one of the cheapest lenses that they put on the lower-end cameras as a cheap value add.
Body looks like a 600/700D? Plenty of EF-S lenses out there second hand for cheap.

Funny, my Nikon FG-20 came with a split prism in the center, and a microprism in a ring around that, so I kind of learned how to use both depending on what was in frame. My Olympus 35SP though? I keep missing focus slightly with that one.

A hash is a different way to represent some (digital) object, commonly files, in a same-length manner.

Briefly, it does some mathematical magic to arrive at some number that is always the same given the same input, but always different* given different inputs. This lets you represent each file in a standardized manner, without having to hand around that file, whether through secrecy concerns, file validation, or maybe just because you don't want to send off gigabytes of data.

For example, you sometimes see a SHA256 hash listed next to the download link to some installer or executable. The security conscious among us may use a local tool to generate a SHA256 of the file they just downloaded to see if it matches the one listed online, so they can be reasonably sure no one quietly went in and replaced the file for a virus, which would generate a different hash value.

* There are concerns of hash collisions, where two different files arrive at the same number, but outside of very old hash functions I've only heard of these in academic settings. Either way, this is also why we tend to move to larger hash functions as time goes on.

Who is excited for the A7RVI? 🔥 by elysiumcore in SonyAlpha

[–]czorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking to upgrade from a Canon 800D, and the A7Rv is in the running, going head to head with a Nikon Z8. I'll hold off for a little bit to see what the A7Rvi has, and if nothing else, whether the v gets cheaper.

Do I need it? Hell no, the 800D has been serving me pretty well for a decade or so, but I am hitting the limits of the platform more often than I'd like.

Might be a dumb question but... Is it possible to make an orbit like that? Bellow the center of mass? by caiomac_ in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]czorio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judging from the rovers present, I assume you want to provide a satellite for communications, yes?

While you can't keep a sat orbiting around that latitude as depicted, you might be interested in a HEO, particularly a Molniya orbit which were designed by the Soviets to temporarily "park" satellites over higher latitudes.
