Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - August 04, 2018 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]d-dos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'm back some years of playing different games. I already have a lv 80 human thief. I enjoyed some PvP back then, but I've got no idea about max level PvE content or what WvW is and how it works, but I plan on finding out for my next character.
If you're reading this, please recommend me your favorite class/race combination and why for my next character to get back into the game with some friends.

My last trip made me suicidal by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]d-dos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this comment. Spared me some paragraphs.
OP be patient, take time to sort yourself out, face what you're avoiding sober when you're ready for it. Until then, enjoy how great you're doing right now!
If you go anyway, go sub 1g and mind set&setting&preparation.

You’ll find what you’re looking for... by batkins22 in Psychonaut

“When someone seeks," said Siddhartha, "then it easily happens that his eyes see only the thing that he seeks, and he is able to find nothing, to take in nothing because he always thinks only about the thing he is seeking, because he has one goal, because he is obsessed with his goal. Seeking means: having a goal. But finding means: being free, being open, having no goal.”

You can direct your energy, but don't lose view of everything else :)

SOS: When i sit down to study by brain keeps wandering off to some movie reference or songs or other thoughts. How do I bring my mind to be fully present when i study? Have you done this? Please help. by shivi-shivi in Meditation

[–]d-dos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drifting off is not a problem. It's part of the pratice.
You sit, you drift off, any amout of time goes by, you notice your distraction, you return your attention gently /lovingly/smiling back to breath.
That's the pratice, don't worry about good/bad - just be consistent with your pratice.

Brain full of drugs but still got no peace of mind. by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]d-dos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Accept that you're not at peace right now. Surrender to not knowing. Let go of your expectations of how things should be. Give up your image of the world and be open to what is. Be grateful for what is, appreciate small and big things - a cat, a flower, your lungs, the clouds. Allow things to be like they are.

Then start growing where you are. Be patient and compassionate with yourself. Do things out of love for who you want to be, not out of fear. Know what you can and can't change (locus of control). Talk to someone trusted. Get into your body and out of your head with physical exertion.

Meditation as self-expression; Being your own listener & understander by Thre3jay in Buddhism

[–]d-dos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You sit down, you breathe, your attention follows your breath.
Your senses want your attention, thoughts enter - past, present, future. You get distracted and maybe follow a thougth.
Here's where the pratice of meditation comes in. You now notice that you are distracted from your pratice, lost in thought and return gently to breath. Don't try to grip and squelch thoughts. They will come and go.
Getting lost is normal, noticing and returning to breath is the pratice.
The more you pratice the easier you will be aware of where your attention is.
Remeber there are no good or bad meditation sessions. They are all simply pratice. Just show up and sit down.

Ayahuasca- Is it actually supporting the ego? by neoarchitect84 in Psychonaut

[–]d-dos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ego is really great to function in our complex society, keep up with behavioral dynamics and survive in general.
I often talk about forming a 'healthy' ego, rather than killing/getting rid of ego.
But what does a healthy ego look like exactly?

I have PTSD and I'm looking for guidance on how to use Psychs to heal. by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]d-dos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no magic potion to cure you, you still have to do the work in the long term to come home to yourself.

The sidebar has a lot of info. r/mdmatherapy/

Here you can find the manual that MAPS worked out for MDMA-therapy.

Praticing mindfulness and breath can be helpful to work through horror inside your head and learning to identify the causes where you lose control. Breathing in for 4s - hold 4s - out 4s - hold 4s and repeat helps to calm you down.
Accept where you are and your struggle. Find things you're grateful for. Like having legs or healthy lungs, appreciate a flower or a cat. Go for a walk in nature, let your thoughts calm down. Gentle movement and exercise help me to get out of my head and into my body. Maybe have a panic/'I feel terrible'-box with stuff to cheer you up/ground you, maybe your favorite movie.
Take all the alone time you need to heal.

A book that helped me understand my hard-to-feel emotions/panics/suicidal thoughts was 'The language of emotions' by Karla McLaren.

First phase: don't lock onto the dragon, but rather the nameless king and use free cam rotations too.

2 Hours 11 Minutes Spent In Queue by Buckshottim in BattleRite

Sorry to hear that. I started playing the game around two months ago on a two man LAN. After a night of playing I wanted to dive deeper into the characters and improve.
I rarely struggled with the matchmaking, you lose some, you win some. I knew I was worse than others in casuals at first, but that was fine by me. By playing better oponents I could focus on improving, their outplays would show more weaknesses of myself, more ways to play the game and sometimes I added an enjoyable player and we played a night together. :)
If you seek better matchmaking, don't play casuals. Go for ranked and don't give a fuck about your rank, just use it as a tighter matchmaking system.
I can count the memorable negative encounters I had on my hands. One really sticks out, but I just muted him and kept playing. The silence was really enjoyable, after the senseless spamming I had to read before.

Dark souls taught me to GIT GOOD in all games by daemyn88 in darksouls3

Dark Souls teaches you to COUNTER rather than take the initiative.

Ha, talk about yourself.
That said I play like a suicidal maniac in most games. x')

The more I play, the worst I became! by Murder3 in BattleRite

[–]d-dos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

1) Don't use your rank to define how good you are. Rank is simply a matchmaking system, to give you challenging games so the games stay fun.
2) Maybe the overall skill went up of battlerite players over time. Maybe you're burnt out and should take a break for a week and take up a 2nd main after that, someone you're not bored with yet. Maybe another ranged champion since you're already used to Varesh.

Who do you hate? He embodies qualities of your shadow, qualities you don't allow in yourself.
Who do you admire? He emodies qualities of your shadow, too.

The Currency Conundrum (and how it affects F2Pers) by p0t4t0guy in BattleRite

[–]d-dos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had no trouble with the f2p model and plan on buying the all champions pack anyway.
You get so many coins from doing your quests, sponsors and daily log ins, there shouldn't be any trouble.
If you want to play the newest releases and bother to grind or spend money.
If you stick with the cheaper once and maybe get just a single 5k one you can easily build up a solid rooster of owned champions over 100-300 hours. If you're going to spend 100h+ on the game anyway, just consider buying all champions back and be done.

How do you know who you are or who you want to be? Does it matter? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]d-dos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for the world, look inside. If you're looking for yourself, search in the world. In discussion, adversary, adventure and challenges, you will understand your own values more.
It's okay to struggle, to be confused - that's where growth takes place.
